Soak an old sock (clean) in hot water and put it in the incubator. I usually line the edge of the incubator with old socks anyway so the chicks don't get cut on the edge of the screen and it helps keep the incubator from getting so nasty from the hatching chicks and the stuff they get all over everything.

I absolutely love the heaters. The only problem is those big ole Buff orp roos want to roost on the bucket and have turned them over. I told my husband to wire the bucket to the wire...and a couple of them slid off of the heater. I think I'll get some of that tape that is rough like sandpaper and put it on the lids to stop the sliding. Got any better ideas?

Totally know what you mean about being caught up. I work really hard before Winter Break to get lessons plans and activities ready for the next month so it has been really easy to get the kids back into the swing of things. Plus I have switch my grade book over to Excel which has made life easier due to the space to customize which I really need with the population I teach.

You should blackmail Al into bring food so you will come to the auction. Remind him of what a long drive you have to make, how cold it is and the only thing to keep you going was the thought of his wonderful cooking. Oh and make sure you tell Al what a great, generous, caring guy he is (which of course he is). That should work, right Al?

Yes I just got back on sorry.
I think I am rooster poor right now so I am gonna pass on them this time.

I understand that. I have 8 adult girls and 12 adult boys right now. I came home from work last week and my DH had brought home the 10 roos. If I could get to Blanchard this weekend, I'd just take them. I know someone was looking for a solid black NN, but I think it may have been a hen. I just think that they are too pretty to kill. I'm sure someone could use them.

Ok...not to sound stupid...but what is the main purpose of having your flock NPIP tested? Do they test all of your birds? What does it test them for? Does it make your birds sell for a better price or just easier? What's the deal?

I am using the 1 gal plastic water & haven't had any trouble but thought if I did I would just put that foamy shelf lining stuff between them. You are using buckets of water?

When it gets warmer so that my hens are laying better, I have a hen that lays a lovely green egg, one that lays a light blue egg and several that lay pink eggs. If you can wait until February, when hopefully the eggs won't be freezing in the nest boxes, I can get you some to hatch. Someone else might have some available now - BigOkie usually has EE eggs in his incubators.
