Kate,

Yes, I have MFC roos. I don't want a roo in with my layers... the ones whose eggs I eat. I have two separate MFC trios (2 pullets/roo for each trio) and a 2 month old cockerel that I picked up yesterday.

I've already made a mental note from before that you'd like MFC eggs once my girls start laying and I can verify fertility. I figure I'm gonna end up plucking some cushion feathers to make sure it all goes well, because that's about as close to AI that I plan to get.

thanks for calling that post to our attention. It is an excellent explanation of how dogs think and how to know whether they are going to be a danger to your chickens, by the way they look at the chickens and whether they chase small animals like squirrels or rabbits and whether you can call them off the chase and have them immediately respond to your command.

Actually, I got my certificate this past June. I just need to remember to call the Dept of Ag and order some testing antigen and then go by and pick it up. The Department of Ag is only a few blocks from my office and I need to get some forms also. I am glad to know that you are a tester however. Do you have time to test the birds you take to auctions or do you just test the ones you keep for your own flock?

Its hard for me to get up ther an pick stuf up. I have ben waiting til the first to get some antigen Jason wontd me to test his birds for the show at cement. I call thim an they let other peplo pick stuf up for me so that works out good....IM glad to,,,no you work close by ther so if i need something..its a long way from Anadarko..

I could always bring something to you at the Blanchard auction if you call the Department of Agriculture and order what you need and then tell them I will be picking it up for you. I will send you a PM

Oooops sorry! I think I remember asking you now too. I remember thinking about asking you, but forgot that I did.

Goodmorning everyone.

Looks like I am off to Tulsa today. My youngest son goes for pre-op today & surgery on Friday. Has the weather changed any??? I am hoping that it isn't bad tonight.

Have a great day everyone.

Morning Okies,
My class is learning about Oklahoma and did you know that Oklahoma has an official soil (which is Port Silt Loam) and the state beverage is milk. Tres bizarre! Oh and get this our official state furbearer animal is the "Raccoon".

Will if I ever trap the stupid raccoons that killed my turkeys they won't be furbearing animals for very long.

Thanks city- miss donna is my head girl and nobody mess with her roost! thank you very much!- ornery gal... she definitly was peeved at me... now if there was a market for chicken art i'd be doin great! haven't seen much in chicken art, so am doing the other things like parrots and such

i hate to see roos done away with unless they are mean....still wish that one of mine had mellowed, but that brahma of mine is a sweetheart- i occasionally pet him, but make sure i'm not getting too friendly, hope that works with him

Robin, If I had money I would definitely buy your stuff - you are so extremely talented and I've learned to watch the photos you post closely - your paintings are impressively realistic! It sounds to me like you're doing good to not get too "lovey" with your nice Brahma roo. I remember Les/NNbreeder said something on here about not petting and loving up on a rooster much when he's little - so when he grows up he's more likely to see you as The Boss and not as another member of his flock to be dominated. I don't have any roosters so I can't comment from experience, but this made sense to me.

I have the same question about the global warming. It is supposed to get above freezing here today, so I plan to try to get rid of the ice rink in my driveway before the Monster Cold gets here tonight. That's what one of the weather liars called it on last night's 10 o'clock news: "Monster Cold." This morning on the radio they suggested putting tape over your door locks, car locks, etc. so they don't freeze up during the negative temps...wind chill here is supposed to get down to -15 with actual temps of 0 during the next few days.

Do you think if we started littering, using aerosol deodorant and quit recycling that it would warm things up a little?

Yesterday I got a couple bales of wheat straw and broke one open in the chicken run to help keep the dirt a little drier and give the clucks something to scratch in - I was happy to see it has a lot of wheat in it, so the chickens will enjoy picking through it. This morning when I opened the henhouse person-door to change out the indoor water, a few chickens escaped into the back yard. I had fun gathering them all up one by one and returning them to their enclosure. They were the 2 Australorps, 1 Barred Rock and the Dark Cornish - not the flight white EEs or the Brown Leghorn and they still stop and squat down when I approach them, so it made them easy to catch.

I expect be there too. I first met Les and Teva when we all became certified. Les, I'm assuming they'll notify us of recertifiction classes. Is that correct?
