And of course with all the Okies there, someone is likely to have a cage you could borrow if you needed one. You could do like Henny did last time and just not get a bidder's number - but that was when she missed out on silkie eggs for $1.50 per dozen.

Nope not hatching (no more space for any chicks if this batch hatches out AND I won't know that for sure until after the auction AND I have a New Year's goal of not hatching eggs only buying chicks
lol.png
) ... and will be buying a tin and lamp kit tomorrow so I can wire up a heater for the coop water bowl. I refuse to comment on the borrowed cage scenario... I didn't think of that and shall purge it from my memory

. I have 5 silkies, so the amount of silkies I want has has been reached (at least until such time as I can figure out their gender), only birds I'd really like to have are buff or dark standard brahmas or golden neck d'uccles... don't know if the PRocks are gonna hatch or not, and have my MFCs which aren't very common around here anyway

I'm living in denial, aren't I?

Yes, it is hard to stay with goals and resolutions with this group around to help you fall off the wagon

Faerie, I've been meaning to compliment you on your steadfast commitment to your budget. It is quite inspiring. My commitment to mine has been lax lately, and I need to get back to following it strictly.

So, thanks for that.

I grew up poor. We didn't have much, but we valued everything we had... my dad was a TSgt in the AF back in the day when they paid dirt cheap nothing for pay, with a wife who was separated from the AF for getting pregnant (both my parents are prior service) and in 2 years they went from having 0 kids to 3 kids (my sisters are identical twins, I was born 1 1/2 years after them). Things got a LOT better after my mom graduated college in the late 80s/early 90s and went to work... they did their best to instill in us the value of a dollar.

Then on my own after my second divorce, I racked up a LOT of debt very quickly. Medical bills, car payment, bike payment, blah blah blah. Way overspent. I don't make much... low end of the totem pole and all that jazz. If I don't stick to my budget, I don't get to eat very well (my daughter eats much better than I do
lol.png
).

I'm considering selling my 2 green cheek conures... they don't cost much to maintain, but I don't get to spend enough time with them, so I feel like I'm not being a good mama to them. I feel like I'm doing them a disservice because they have lost much of their hand training after so long of me working 2 jobs. However I'm waffling about it because most people don't know how to take care of them AND most people only want ONE of them... and these two have bonded. It's not just money that makes a family happy... everybody needs that feeling of contentment. It makes me happy on the months where I can pay all my bills and not feel like I was stupid and blew my budget on stuff I really didn't need ::closes the door to the yarn/craft room:: I have my weaknesses and weak moments. I actually dialed the number to the person with the brahmas on craigslist! Then I put the phone down.

Actually, I got my certificate this past June. I just need to remember to call the Dept of Ag and order some testing antigen and then go by and pick it up. The Department of Ag is only a few blocks from my office and I need to get some forms also. I am glad to know that you are a tester however. Do you have time to test the birds you take to auctions or do you just test the ones you keep for your own flock?

Donna I will have to be re-certified this year so if you would want to take the class Teva and I will at least be in the same building that day. Usually they hold the classes seperate for re-certification. When we first started years ago they didn't, everyone was all together and it was nice having experianced people there to help us out.

Faerie,
I would be very interested in some of your MFC eggs when you get some. Oh wait, do you have MFC roo? I can't remember, I know you said you are trying to have no roos. Well, if you have fertilized eggs of the MFC I would like to buy some from you to hatch. I love that variety they are so pretty, especially the calicos, which I believe I saw you on that forum discussion a while back. I have not been on that one in a while.
