Yo Okies!!

Sooner - the roads in Tulsa are just fine. No precipitation since midnight and the roads are clear and dry. Windchill now is -5 but it's supposed to be getting colder as the day goes on. Same tomorrow.

My Jack sent me an email that said the new weather term for "freezing drizzle" is frizzle. I replied that in my world "frizzle" means this:

Yeah, my kid's school isn't closed. Her before/aftercare program is. Which effectively means I shouldn't bother going to work today because my boss doesn't like me taking partial days off. All or nothing kinda thing. Same reason I'll schedule 2-3 doctor appointment/eye appt/dentist/chiro whatever in the same day... because I'm going to end up having to take the whole day off anyway.

I dropped D off at school at 8:30 (her's starts at 8:45am). I'll pick her up when they are released at 3:15pm.

Does anyone have ferrets? I am thinking of getting some more. I think one of mine has insulinoma (basically severe diabetes) and isn't going to make it. I'm supposed to change his diet to only proteins, specifically chicken, but he just won't eat it.

Students are out for today and Friday where I teach. Teachers, however, must report on Friday morning for professional development.

Our flock is doing well, in spite of the cold. It looks like the Light Bahamas and Salmon Faverolles have the best cold tolerances. I've moved some of my birds into pens with others to make sure they generate enough body heat inside their enclosures. It took a day for them to establish who was in charge, but now I think they're glad to have the extra company.

We got freezing rain last night, so everything is covered with a thin sheet of ice. I wish it had been snow. Snow is much easier to deal with.

I'm off to salt the walks and check on the barn brooder. Stay warm!

Hey fellow Okies! I am from the Skiatook/Sperry area and it sure is coooold!

I have to say, today is a day that i am actually GLAD that my dh hasn't got the chicken coop finished yet, so no chickies to have to go out and take care of in this frigid weather!!

I am also glad it is not my turn in the rotation to go to Claremore to get milk! my week is next week!

Glad you're here!! BYC is a great site and you will learn tons - although we mostly just chat on this thread, we do have some very highly knowledgeable chicken people who can answer most any question you may have, and out on the main forum you can find answers and ideas on just about anything chicken! well i figured i would be waking up to some more snow this am .not a drop though its cold but the sun sure is shining bright out there.i was sleeting for about 20 min last night an then it just quit.the winds just came up hard an blew the storm right past us
