We feed ours chicken feed and 20 percent layer pellets and for extra protein we feed softened dog & cat food. I don't know much about them either, but poultyand bees has had them for several years.

Thanks for the info!! I am going to get a ration of chick starter made at our feedstore. I was thinking I could feed a 20% chick starter to the chicks and the Peafowl since the protien would be about the same. Ive heard of feeding cat food but have not tried it. They just love the greens and dry bread. But that's more of a snack, not a food.

Oh, and mine like whole corn and black oil sunflower seeds too. The corn probably isn't good for them but they sure like it. I think the sunflower seeds are good for them, since they're high in Vitamin E.

I plan to attend the next poops, but not sure what I will have for sale. Trying to build flock numbers up. Right now ive got some gorgeous bbs silkies and a few with tophats that look absolutely gorgeous, only about 2 months old though. Should have some trios of this and that though, just your basic buff orp, rir, barred rocks, etc.

Well, its almost time for the news. I better catch some weather and get to bed. I have alot to do tomorrow before we go to Maud Auction. BYC is so addictive, I find myself on the computer everytime I get a chance to catch up on what the Okies are talking about! He thinks I'm crazy!

Carla when you let some frizzle necked neck eggs go shoot me a pm, would love a few pullets for eye candy. Also are your silkies laying, I think Q said he is in the market for some.

I just remembered at the next poops I will have bbs cochins for sale, got 3 good looking pullets an a roo who is blue but has alot of off colour feathers in his neck, great pet quality but not for show.

Well looks like things are gonna work out. Saturday I'll pick up the chickens from Okmulgee around 5-6ish, then drive back here and borrow P&B's place to house them overnight. Looks like we'll be learning to butcher on Sunday! J's got an easy out... he's gotta work. But I batted my eyelashes and asked my dad very sweetly and he just sighed at me and asked what time we'll be butchering chickens... he hasn't butchered a chicken since he was a child! Hilarious

My mom was about to die laughing I think, then told Dad that women from NYC don't butcher chickens...

I have a feeling that there will be fun times in the work time

I can't believe I'm actually excited about learning to butcher. How much you wanna bet that I wanna toss my cookies the first time?

A man and his ever-nagging wife went on vacation to Jerusalem . While
they were there, the wife passed away.
The undertaker told the husband, "You can have her shipped home for $5,000, or you can bury her here, in
the Holy Land , for $150." The man thought about it and told him he
would just have her shipped home.
The undertaker asked, "Why would you spend $5,000 to ship your wife home,
when it would be wonderful to be buried here and you would spend only
$150?"

The man replied, "Long ago a man died here, was buried here, and three
days later he rose from the dead.
I just can't take that chance."

Well! Good news guys!! I closed on my new house with 3 acres.

Me and the wife want our 1st purchase to be a small flock of chickens. The thought of having fresh eggs every morning is awesome.

I do have some problems and questions.

1) How do you sex a chick?

2) Is anyone near the OKC area selling baby chicks in the next few weeks? I'd much rather buy from a local chicken lover then some mass breeder at a feed store

3) Can feed stores eve sell sexed chicks?

I'm only looking for like 5 hens. Interested in something eye pleasing and decent egg layer

4) I will have to keep the bird to my yard....any advice on wing clipping?

Well I haven't been to any this fall or winter due to hunting and basketball. I try to go to some in the spring and summer.
When they were closer to home I went all the time but now Blanchard is the closest one.
I love to go and see everyone but sometimes it is hard to get away.
It nothing against any of our fine Okies or the auctions, I like to go when I can.
