1.Hatcheries vent sex them or there are some that are six links that you can tell by color when they hatch.

2. I don't know of anyone yet but it shouldn't be long now.

3.Yes they do but they are sexed at the hatchery.
What breeds? How much do you want to spend?

4.Just clip the wing feathers along one wing.

5.

1) only a very experianced person can sex a chick but there are birds called sex-links that can be sexed by color at hatching

2) PM Okcarla, she just posted recently like one page back. She usually always has chicks as does sjarvis00

3) Yes feed stores sell sex-links and also pullets but sometimes they do get mixed up due to mishandling. Some of the Okies here will let you piggyback a few chicks in with their chick orders.

4) Wing clipping is easy just trim back the primary flight feathers on just one wing. Or when it comes time let everyone know and I am sure that someone here will help you out.

I do want to keep them all.... but I cant... They are complaining that they want space and less friends to visit with. I was chasing silver laced wyandottes all around the garage earlier. Little buggers escaped when I was adding more to the brooder.

And we have the same storm going on over here, isnt it lovely..

Man that will be great. HAVE you ever tryd that game chicken mix at the Hairra feed mill its just 35 a barrel or 10a sack.

Some good rain here in Yukon as well.

Sent you a PM about chicks.

Thanks everyone for the advice. Oklahoman generosity in full effect here at BYC. Can't tell ya how stoked I am. Been a dream to get back into the country, miss it greatly from my youth.

You have to know I'm serious when we said no to houses because they weren't "chicken friendly". Almost bought 5 acres with a creek going through but it was to close to a main road.

The home I bought is 3 acres wooded away from any main street. South of El Reno.

I'm tossing around buying some chicks and keeping them in side until I get moved in early Feb.

Congrats on moving to an acreage!

I only have some bantam chicks right now, some silkies and silver sebrights. But, I did put a rack full of eggs in the incubator this morning.

I recommend going to the nearest poultry auction to see what type of birds you prefer. It sounds like you have some time to think it over before you're ready. You might even do better buying young hens or pullets at an auction than to buy chicks, but the chicks are sure cute
