I am getting one egg a day from 5 quail and confirmed yesterday that 4 of them are male
roll.png

They killed the one I put in with them - it was a darker color with a white spot under its beak, so I want some that "match" what I have. At this point, my preference would be to acquire about 6 adult females, since I want to have some eggs for a kindergarten class to hatch in March. My second choice would be for someone with more quail than I have to sell me a couple dozen hatching eggs in March for the kindergarten class.

You might want to really watch the quail. We got some and as they got older the males all started fighting to death. (Not a good scenario with children around.) My daughter discovered it and came running screaming hysterically that all of her quail were bloody. We had to separate every male to make it stop. It all started about the time they started laying...

That sound aweful! Little guys have attitudes!

Maybe we should all do a remake of the movie BIRDS with all the attitudes our flocks are giving us these days... ha ha ha

First my goose... Goosie (the one I am about to make into stew if he dont settle down... dont know what plucked his feathers to be all in a tissy as of late)

Some of our Roo's are not being so cordial to one another... even a few of the hens are getting a lil attitude...

Maybe they all have COOP fever? Even if they are let out during the day... maybe they wish it to be spring?

I have often wondered what the State was thinking on that one. If 14 isn't sensible enough to drive a car, then it's definitely not sensible enough to drive a bike either. I've had 2 friends die in the last 2 or 3 years on motorcycles. These were men that had been riding for years. I used to go riding with one of them. I know he was extremely safe. There was a pickup that didn't see him...

Stick to your guns. Better to have an upset teenager than the possibilities.

My thoughts exactly!

Glad to have you. Buckle up for the ride of your life.
Tell about youirself and your poultry.

My wife had several relatives from Covington. I think most of them have moved to the Enid area now though.
I also have a friend at church that moved here from Covington (Rick Lawson.)

Is the Dairy Spot still there?

Steph, My son has been giving me fits too. Most of the time he is great but he has been testing us lately.
He made the honor roll last semester which was a big answer to prayer and a tribute to his hard work. But if we didn't stay on top of things he would be uncontrollable. He sounds like your son in that he has to experience something before he can learn.
His big deal is guns. He has hunted with me since he was seven and killed his first deer when he was eight (2). Now he thinks he needs just about every kind of gun made. I think he grew up too fast when it came to guns.
School is a major inconvenience in his life. He would rather be doing anything else than go to school.
He is a good kid though and I am sure he will survive this little spurt of rebellion.
Not sure if I will though.

Anyone going to Maud tonight? I'm going to get some cages gathered up. Im sure I'll come home with something!

Does anyone here have goats? Im looking for a spotted nubian billy goat...seems to be hard to find!

I wish they would sell the poultry first at Maud. It is usually really late getting out of there. Or at least it used to be.
Sorry I don't have any goats.

What caused me to finally stumble out of bed this morning was a weak sound coming from the living room... sounded like something was gargling in there... turns out that little Avalanche has decided he really IS a boy, and crowed for the first time this morning. He didn't look too sure of what he was doing, but man it was hilarious.

J was NOT amused... he was sleeping in this morning because he didn't have to be at the center until 9:30am. They're driving out to Woodward for a funeral (Marine Corps) and he's part of the funeral detail. Poor little Avalanche was just doing his job... so J shut the bedroom door and went back to sleep.
