Silks,

You must have plenty of propane or an electric back-up system to be jumping for joy to get more snow and ice. The rest of us
are hoping and praying that it goes way north of us, such as North Dakota or Canada where they brag about such as an everyday
thing.
I moved back home to get away from the cold, snow and overcast days.

Doc

Im back And im sorry but i wasnt jumping for joy i guess i picked the wrong face LOL!!

I too am praying for it to go way north. I cant say i enjoy going out several times a day and breaking the ice. I was liking the spring like weather we was having.

EXTENDED DISCUSSION...
A MAJOR WINTER STORM WILL IMPACT MUCH OF EASTERN OKLAHOMA AND
NORTHWEST ARKANSAS BEGINNING EARLY THURSDAY AND LINGER INTO
FRIDAY. A SHALLOW COLD AIRMASS WILL GRADUALLY WORK SOUTH ACROSS THE
REGION LATE WEDNESDAY AND WEDNESDAY NIGHT...WITH PRECIPITATION
BREAKING OUT ACROSS THE SOUTHERN PLAINS TOWARD DAYBREAK THURSDAY.
PRECIPITATION IS EXPECTED TO BEGIN AS A MIX OF FREEZING RAIN AND
SLEET ACROSS MUCH OF NORTHEAST OKLAHOMA AND NORTHWEST ARKANSAS EARLY
THURSDAY...WITH MOSTLY RAIN AND ISOLATED THUNDERSTORMS FARTHER SOUTH
INTO SOUTHEAST OKLAHOMA AND WEST CENTRAL ARKANSAS. SIGNIFICANT
ACCUMULATIONS OF SNOW...SLEET AND FREEZING RAIN ARE EXPECTED
THURSDAY NIGHT AS THE STORM SYSTEM INTENSIFIES.

WHILE LATER FORECASTS WILL CONTINUE TO REFINE TRACK OF THE STORM
SYSTEM AND ASSOCIATED IMPACTS...AT THIS TIME THERE IS THE POTENTIAL
FOR A PROLONGED PERIOD OF FREEZING RAIN ACROSS PORTIONS OF EAST CENTRAL
OKLAHOMA INTO NORTHWEST ARKANSAS...RESULTING IN SIGNIFICANT ICE
ACCUMULATIONS MAINLY THURSDAY NIGHT. PRECIPITATION SHOULD EVENTUALLY
TRANSITION TO MOSTLY SNOW AND SLEET INTO FRIDAY AS THE SYSTEM
GRADUALLY EXITS.

TOTAL SLEET AND SNOWFALL AMOUNTS OF 4 OR MORE INCHES ARE EXPECTED
GENERALLY ALONG AND NORTH OF AN OKFUSKEE TO FAYETTEVILLE LINE...WITH
7 TO 12 INCHES POSSIBLE NORTH OF THE INTERSTATE 44 CORRIDOR THROUGH
FRIDAY. ONCE THE SYSTEM MOVES AWAY FROM THE AREA...BITTERLY COLD
TEMPERATURES WILL COMBINE WITH GUSTY NORTHWEST WINDS RESULTING IN
DANGEROUS WIND CHILLS. PLEASE SEE THE LATEST WINTER STORM WATCH
//OKCWSWTSA// FOR ADDITIONAL DETAILS.

EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT PLANNING STATEMENT...
ANTICIPATE RESPONSES RELATED TO SIGNIFICANT SNOW AND ICE
ACCUMULATIONS. FURTHERMORE...UNDERSTAND THE IMPACTS MAY EXTEND WELL
INTO THE WEEKEND IF POWER GRIDS ARE HEAVILY DAMAGED.

we have wood for the stove, will have the blankets that betsy mentioned around the coop, glycerine in their water, need to get a camping lamp or candles, and spare corn for the gals- and some food we can cook on the woodstove- back in 2007 muskogee got slammed with 19 days with no electricity- which is why we swore never again will depend on utilites, didn't live out in the country then either!

Ok, I'm home. Prof decided she was done with us... the lab portion today was just "safety rules", she said if we didn't know that stuff by common sense and spending 5 minutes reading the worksheet, she couldn't help us...

Just a biology lab, so no chemicals or anything like that.

Now I'm home, looking at my gas house with electric ignition (sole exception, stove can be lit either by electric or a match, it's a gas stove) and I'm wondering what I'm going to do if the power goes out. I don't have a generator and can't afford one, and J's house is literally across town. I'd move the birds and coops over there, but it just won't work that way. I'm hoping to have this house set up by NEXT winter for this kind of weather, but I really just couldn't afford to retrofit it in the past 2 years because of medical bills. Oh, J's power lines are buried, so even during the last ice storm when I was without power for 14 days, his power was out less than 18 hours (they had to replace a blown transformer and his entire neighborhood lit up afterward).

I've got candles. I don't have a propane stove because well... I have a gas one, so I can still cook and boil water if it comes down to it. I need lanterns, but haven't been able to afford to buy them. The freezers will stay cold for a LONG time as long as I limit how often they are opened, and I know during the last ice storm in 07 I didn't lose anything in the freezer because it never warmed up enough to thaw. If I lose power, I will lose internet... my internet and phone service are tied together.

I'll be honest... I figured out a long time ago that I take the preparations that I can, and it'll either work out or it won't. I'm not going to tear myself down over it.
