I don't like the silly sissy sweet birds...I like 'em mean and prehistoric looking!! Well except the ones i cuddle...I do have a soft spot...it is that large area around my middle...I giggle when you poke it! It also catches food for later.

Cuban,

You're missing out. The birds that beg to be picked up are the best. Those that don't wait, they just fly up and ride along are even better. If your chickens don't want to spend time with you, how can you want to spend time with them? You gotta love it when you go into a pen and they all come running to say hello, even if you don't have a feed bucket in your hand.

Hi guys- hows everyone? not much going on today- chickens poke their beaks out to look disgustedly at the snow, i even opened the run gate and they just gave me a look that said plainly- you MUST be kidding! got 1 egg today, that doesn't surprise me all that much- the guineas finally got hungry enough to come out of the trees tonite to eat... i think they were waiting for that cold wet stuff to go away. and our road will be snowed in for a few more days- thats to be expected, we live in a gully, road up to the main road, then back down and up... can be challenging to say the least, are always hearing folks on the main road stuck on the ice- that taco soup was a big hit, so i guess that will be a regular on the menu!

fun chick- hear you with the mixed flock- i have a banty mutt we got at poops- a cochin mix, who is the sweetest gal- haven't hatched any eggs yet- in the banty pen the poor little sillkie roo isn't fast enough to catch them, keep telling him to quit banging the girls on the head and they may quit running from him!

My favorite cubalaya stag will hop up on my shoulder and take a ride. My big thai game will stand still while I give him a scratch under his beak. They're people tame, but territorial to other birds.

Sometimes an american game cock will bite my arm when I'm handling him, but that's alright. I probably wasn't holding him the right way or some such thing. He won't squeal about it, that's beneath his warrior heart, so biting or spurring his is way of communicating that he doesn't like something. They're quirky birds.

They all like to talk to me when I walk by their pen or barrell, some of the young ones will follow me around and get right up under my feet even when I don't have feed.

I have kept other breeds (and still do), but the games (Oriental and American) have always stood out to me the most.

They're the best, for me.

gotta love it... i have one girl that has gotten friendly again after getting over the demon roo, when i go in to collect eggs she hops on my shoulder and wants to come in the house for a bit, just sits in my lap and talks, then she is ready to be a outside chicken again... i guess they have approved of the brahma roo.... they are all much more relaxed, yep- don't like a roo that stalks and attacks the food giver!

Robin,

Your silkie boy is such a pretty thing!

thanks! he is a funny little guy! he'll dance for the girls- (they live in my art studio)- tell them about treats- but hasn't learned not to bop em on the head! i guess he is just a slow learner...

I will gladly save any that are like that for you two! Then you can save the sweet ones for me!

Shoot... if I raise up something sweet then I gotta re-examine my flocks!
