any of the land around your parts that i have seen will grow anything, its all either rich and black or dark and sandy, should be able to handle anything you choose if it fits in the weather we have here.

I have a mixture of all the above, far back lot is sandy........backyard is red...........and the horse lot is dark

We have dark sandy soil at my place which goes pretty deep. I need to build up the loam more, but am planning to use the Ruth Stout method of gardening which is no till method.

I would be interested in learning how to make a solar water heater, that would be awsome. On Ebay you can buy wind generators fairly cheap, but then you need to figure in the cost of the pole, cable, inverter, battery bank and grid-tie inverter which is still rather pricey if you want to sell back any extra electric. If you plan it right and can find materials cheap you can get an 800 kw wind generator complete if you install it yourself for around $800. Still working other ideas to become more Earth friendly.

thats awsome.....i would pay you for the eggs of course, i just thought they were cool i never seen white ones.

you can pick up grown sometime at the different auctions, occasionally eggs, i believe there were some at the last auction in blanchard.

Carla sells white guineas. She bought the ones that I sold at Blanchard last time - and mine came from her originally.

so I was bummed I didnt get to do the full pioneer thing like my late grandmother did.. Call me weird but I have always looked at our modern day conviences a bit more complex than needed..

i hear you... i have always thought i was born in the wrong generation- so we try to live self sufficiently and simply just in case- back in 2007 we were without power for 19 days, and not really prepared, learned alot and now we have our woodstove, and we didn't lose power- but we were much more prepared- my daughter teases me- she loves city life and detests country living - weird....

ohhh i see a new avatar in the works!!

meanwhile, asked hubby cochin or brahma, brahmas won hands down- felt sorry for my little cochin girl, the roo was in the mood, she wasn't and she raced down the porch ramp- sliding cuz it was slick, across the creek into the bushes with him right after her, he bopped her on the head a few times to tell her who is boss i guess- this is the same little one the first roo de-feathered, so she is pretty skittish- out of the 5 hens, only three will even look at him, the other 2 will chase him off, then we have three pullets coming into egg laying in the next month, so maybe it will give PJ the cochin a break. So she came in and i gave her a bath, she is missing a toenail, not sure but i think it was one of the cold spells-

this is her back, after the bath- i can't blame it on Barny, she was pretty stripped by the first roo,

Whassup Okies?

I got to see a bird of prey--a harrier--fly parallel to me while I was driving home this evening. I clocked it at 40mph--and it stayed parallel with me for almost a mile. It was flying at a good clip, but it was also gliding for part of that time. An amazing bird! No wonder when they decide to take our backyard birds, they just don't stand much of a chance!

Pryor show is bantam only. Probably 3/4 of the shows seem to be bantam only.

If you have a million questions, I'm sure between all of us we can probably answer most all of them. So go ahead and shoot! Even if you don't have anything to show, your family can come hang out.

Ahh poor little henny. That is why I refuse to have roosters who do not treat their ladies right. Even at that my hens still get a bit bare back there. I think I may make some chicken saddles for my girls this year to make sure they do not get defeathered so bad. You may want to use some antibiotic ointment on her bum or Desitin would work too.

I have a bunch of cool fabric and patterns to make saddles. They appear to be easy to make, if anyone is interested I have several patterns I can email you.

Well I only slept one hour last night and am totally exhausted. Have a great night everyone.

You are sitting in the driver's seat since you don't have a contract with your current carrier. The carriers have the capability to customize a package for you. Figure out what you need, # of phone lines, # of minutes, when anytime minutes need to start (some carriers start "anytime" minutes at 7pm and some don't start them until 9 pm), also check on when "anytime minutes end in the morning. Shop around and look at the standard plans and find the best plan, then try and get the carrier of your choice to "match" it.

Ask about a 30 day trial to see if you have coverage at your house and along the route you regularly travel. I am pretty certain the FCC requires cell phone carriers to allow a customer out of their contract if they determine they don't have adequate coverage, within the first 30 days of the contract.

Got home from class, and promptly decided that I feel rather brain-dead.

She did bump our test that was supposed to be next Thursday to the following Tuesday because she's behind in her lecturing. I hate to admit it, but she's one of the handful of professors that I've had who have the power to put me to sleep during a lecture. I didn't fall asleep this time though.
