There weren't that many salers there, 6 or so. There were about as many car's for the buyers. It may have gotten busier after we left, we weren't there long. It was 33 degree's and cold! I was hoping Chuck would come on to let us know if that were the case. Oh I got hatching eggs.

I'm bringing some hen aprons for the POOPS donation auction. I was putting six in a bag and realized I'd automatically picked six LF aprons. The other option is to let the winner pick. I will have enough with me that the winner could choose all the same size or a combination of large and small. Is that a better idea?

It was nice Saturday to visit with Sooner and BigOkie37 at the Collinsville sale. I think the cold weather kept buyers and sellers home. I just set the dozen hatching eggs I bought. I candled before setting them, looking for cracks or imperfections, and they all look good. Send some good hatching vibes this way:D

BigOkie37 - Your birds are beautiful. The Ameraucanas hens have been giving the Speckled Sussex rooster who's in the pen across the yard the eye. He's certainly made enough noise to get their attention. He's already got a harem, but I can't blame the boy for trying to impress the ladies.

Get In The Game!!

When you get right down to it there are only two kinds of chickens, game & those that wish they were game.

I haven't been busy at all, I've just been a tad under the weather. I tried a few times to come on and get caught up, but that just wasn't happening.

I buy 9% scratch & 20% crumbles from Stillwater Milling in Claremore then mix them 2 to 1. The birds also get to free range, all the leftover veggies from the table, and lots of veggies from the garden in the summer.

All of my birds are fat... I dunno why.

I buy from various sources but I like to frequent the local guys. Bethany Farm Store is supposed to have good product but I have yet to make it that far to see. Deer Creek Feed has a wide range of poultry feed and if he doesn't have it Bobby will do his best to get it.

Many of the bigger places like Tractor Supply and Atwoods don't adjust prices to the market like the little guys and the Co-ops do, plus Atwoods sells 40 pound bags of feed for roughly the same as a 50 pound bag elsewhere.

My layers get an 18% ration plus a handfull of scratch daily and my breeders get a 24% protien ration with a mix of other stuff like Alfalfa pellets and just a sprinle of vitamins or Calf Manna. A lot depends on the weather too.
