There is a mountain top north and east of Solomon's grave that we call the 'phone booth', because it's the only place for miles around where you can get cell reception. I was making a call from up there one night during a storm when lightning struck a tree about a hundred yards from me. Scared the crap outta me. I came off that mountain as fast as that yamaha would haul me.

Stimp,

That is our neck of the woods. (Doc and Peaches)

I love the area around Cloudy. There is NO phone service there, never have to be bothered by telemarketers.

I all but grew up around Rattan. I still have a few kin in that area.

I wish I could see their whole bodies. Are their legs a greenish color? They might be Ameraucanas..

There was no way to get a pic of their bodies. They were fast little buggers... if I moved my hand to get a pic of their legs, their legs went to cycling so fast the pics all came out blurry. I'll try to get better pictures tomorrow with the big camera.

I couldn't tell really well, but are their cheeks puffy. If they have muffs and green legs, then Ameraucana. They look really similar to chicks I got last year from Atwoods that were Ameraucana. They normally just had them in pullets. But you could go onto Ideals website to look at the pics they have and see if you can match them up. Atwoods buys their chicks from them. Or at least the one in Tulsa and Stillwater do. Did they have their bins labeled for the kinds they had?

Have to re-check leg color... not gonna go look now

But they do not appear to have muffs. The bins were not labeled with breed types, only "pullets, assorted" and "pullets, assorted bantams". I didn't get bantams.

edit: might not be able to tell for a while on the muffs thing... one that I had didn't have a muff until it was almost 2 months old, then it "grew in".

I could be totally wrong, but it seemed like for the Ameraucana chicks they had muffs when they were young too. I remember that was one of the ways the workers were telling them apart too. The Ameraucana's seem to be really popular and both Atwoods I went to would carry them in the pullets. However, for Bantams I think they were always Straight Run. I am not sure if they sex the Bantams. It seemed like I read somewhere it was harder on the bantam chicks to vent sex them with them being smaller and all. But of course, I can be very wrong on all of this, it just seems like I remembered something like that.

Yes. The sign, by saying "pullets, assorted bantams" made me think that the pullets were standard and the bantams were straight run. The 4 I bought are also sporting wing bands, which is what they said they used to designate the pullets from the bantams.

They're just supposed to be 4 pullets. Would be nice to know what they are, but most likely I'm going to have to wait a while to figure that out.

ya know you are addicted to the board here if you get up at 3 to let the dog out and hop online to check to see what you all are up to!

ok, here are pics of my 'ameraucana' chicks, looking on the boards here it is more likely they are EE's, since they are hatchery chicks- there are a couple threads explaining that if you want an ameraucana you probably need to go to a breeder for them- see the leg color- and muffs- do they match yours??

Another person has experienced the joys of hatching eggs and begun the path to addiction!

(Have I ever mentioned that hatching addicts love to encourage others to become hatching addicts?)

Thanks! There's not much hope for me...I'm already mentally planning my next hatch.
