Of course it was the best one, same with names. If you name a bird it will disappear without a trace the next day.

Unless it is a bird that you want to get rid of. That bird can walk across I-40 at rush hour blindfolded and miss every car passing!!

Are you hatching eggs from the call ducks you got earlier this year?

I called the hatchery that I plan to order ducks from - their orders for Swedish are filled with either blue Swedish or black Swedish. I may just have to order enough to be sure you get the 5 blue Swedish you want and any extras can go to our not yet named event on May 1. I recall that you also want Kacki Cambells or something like that - was there a third variety of duck that you wanted me to order for you? I plan to order them next week, for delivery after Easter.

Sorry to hear about your hen. I used to do everything in my power to protect hawks and birds of prey. You know, endangered and all of that crap!?! These days, not so much. I won't go out of my way to kill one, but I figure that my birds provide me with meat and eggs, the least I can do is keep them from being eaten alive. Next time, do what Les says, pick a bird you hate, give it a name and put it in a cage with your best layer. That way, they'll swoop down and get the spaz and leave your good bird alone.

like clockwork, that old dog of ours- blind and senile gets me up at 3 or 4 every morning, so i pop on, check with you guys, then when he is sound asleep, i sneak back to bed....

sorry about the loss of your hen- i tied cds up all around the property, so far so good- but falcons ignore them... hawks haven't been around, i used to figure they needed to eat too... but since getting chickens, my outlook is a bit different- yes they need to survive, but not at the cost of my chickens.....

Morning friends of feather babies...

Not much time for me to chit chat our friend will be coming over some time today to start working on helping us clear out the brush and debris that needs to be burned(we have alot) and cut down some of the trees we lost... so I am really excited for the help

I believe Jason is too as it will free him up to work on other things...and you know how some things become tedious and you "burn out" on it ...(pun not intended) and it kinda leaves you hum drum about the work... I think that is what was happening with us... and the weather didnt seem to help much either when the days we had a chance to work on the place we would wake up to ice, snow or rain... ... anyhoot I dont want to hijack the thread with my property woes but just know in a few weeks after it starts to really clean up I will be one happy hen of the homestead
