You need a rooster, hun. Or do you have one and still aren't getting fertile eggs?

I know I need a roo if I were going to do that, I'm not allowed to have a roo here, the neighbors have already spoken their dislike for me having my hens. Momma had been talking to someone about how it's possible for a hen to set on eggs that she did not lay.

And what would this she be? You has my attention.

Do you have an incubator? Or do you have a hen that goes broody often that would sit on bought eggs until they hatched? That's one thing I'd be careful of - buying eggs and then "hoping" a hen will go broody. It'll be a good idea to have an incubator as backup just in case none of your hens want to sit - or if a hen decides she's done sitting before hatch day! Shavon/smfamf is doing a great job of posting the list of stuff people are bringing to POOPS - and there are hatching eggs on it - pick a breed!

Oh look - there's Shavon's list in the post above this one now (great job, girl!)

Does anyone have any idea how Al plans on doing this with the birds. Are they going to placed in the middle like before and everyone have a free for all. LOL That would surely make everyone get there early. LOL

Carah...are you coming down Friday evening? We got a cabin so we're going to be there Friday night.

This is a survey being done to see what folks in OKC think about changing the law to permit chickens by homeowners who have less than one acre of land. If the law is changed, there will likely be limits on how close you can have the chickens to your neighbor's house and it may only allow hens - but at least those who want to keep chickens will be able to do so. The deadline for making comments is March 31, I believe.

Hey all : I am still alive but barely, this thing I have is getting better. Carla & Gerald Sucks being sick doesn't it, I took some Albuteral for my lungs and breathing and it really has helped even with the cough, now to get my sinuses to drain........... No comments from the peanut gallery on that one LOL.

Ok so my current hatch is over and well it didn't go as well as I would have liked, I had some clears as expected but this time it was a little unusual with alot of late quiters. They were all fully developed and egg sacks were consumed, they just never zipped. I have had quiters before but not as many as this time. Conditions in the bator were great and what hatched looks good, I am not used to 50% is all, seems very low.

I am starting a new bigger hatch tomorrow as soon as I return from Blanchard, maybe that hatch will be better.

Think we are heading to Alex tonight. I called and got directions (405-226-2817) and although she said they do have some poultry already there - guineas, fawn runner duck trio, grey call ducks, mallard ducks - more importantly from my standpoint of trying to keep a spouse from going crazy with cabin fever - they have lots of junk to sell!

Now Teach you know if I sell them to you they will be for food....

...I'll have to take a headcount and see how many I have. I have about 25 eggs to set this next week so I should have all sizes by POOPS. I know Al wants to give everyone a fair turn at getting birds but I also want to make sure someone is going to want them before I haul them 3 hours and have to take them back home cause I'll sell them on craigslist otherwise. I'll let you know how many I have after this weekend.

I have to agree with Donna, I don't want to haul anything that I'm not sure that someone will want. For me it is a space issue, If I haul 20 birds & there isn't anyone that wants them & I have to haul them home, I in turn won't have room to buy anything new.

To quote stimpy: I'm just saying.

Sooner, that is starting to sound like a George Carlin stand-up routine he had about his garage and 'stuff'.
Selling and getting rid of stuff to be able to buy more stuff. I think we are going to be in that same boat.

On enticing broodiness, get some golf balls, fake eggs, or some sort of round heavy thing similarly shaped like an egg. Leave about 6 or 7 of them in a nest box and see if one of your girls will take the bait.

It might take awhile, so be patient.

She has a poofy head, is barred (like a barred rock), and has clean legs. I have no idea how she came about, but I incubated an egg I thought was an orloff's and ended up with her. lol I'm still trying to puzzle out which combination of my birds produced her. You don't have to take her, just thought you might be interested.

Yes same as before Donna, But it doesn't help people get there any earlier LOL. if you want to sell them outright thats great and if you don't sell them all you can put them in any of the 2 auctions at any time before the auction starts. Ducks are in big demand this year among our members so you should do just fine.

Stray : There will be a ton of Hatching eggs at POOPS.

Great Maribeth, look forward to seeing you there. There is a Sonic somewhere along to way for your beverage of choice.
