Carla, I've been told that there is a man in Tuttle named Johny Files who knows alot about chickens. I asked my extension office who to call about have my birds pullorum tested and they told me to contact him. He is the judge for the Grady County Fair chicken show.

Oh, and I meant to ask you Carla, are all four of those eggs Brabanter? Only two were marked; it doesn't make a difference to me, I was just wondering.

Well, I set 10 more eggs tonight: 4 Brabanter (from Carla), 3 Dark Brahmas, and 3 Buff Orpingtons. My girls just happend to lay 3 each. And then I ordered some bantam Frizzle Cochins from justusnak.

Yup, I admit it... I'm a hatch-a-holic.

Grace, how is your hatch coming? Christie is the woman from Tuttle that took all of the ducks I was trying to rehome for someone. She took all my chicks except my little d'Uccle and my Blue Cochin.

Okie, Christie was wondering if you had any of your ducks left.

Cammie, you are no worse a hatch-a-holic than I am.... but, yeah, you are pretty bad

Here's the latest count on my chicks/eggs
sad.png

1 traumatized egg, tried to hatch, but I had to help lots. -Died-

2 chicks, one I helped, one I didn't. -Died- (the brooder got way too hot, and yes, one of these was my sweet little Cochin

)

1 chick, I mostly hand-hatched it -Alive-

1 traumatized egg, tried to hand-hatch it, but it stared bleeding, never made it out of the shell. -Dead-

1 egg that started piping this morning -Alive- but still in the shell

So...... I'm not doing such a great job of this

Buckguy. I plan on coming to the auction....might bring some of the chicks back that we had bought last time as most look like roos...... I will post pics soon and maybe you can help with roo or not thingy. I find it hard especially when the combs are flat !

I am hoping the blue is a roo....I know the one right behind him is looking like a hen...

Not sure what the darker ones are roo or hen? how does one tell when the combs are like this?

Thursday was my only day off, and I didn't get a nap until 9:00... then woke up at 1:00... couldn't go back to sleep until 4:00 and then couldn't get up this morning. Anxiety is really starting to get to me...

Okie, are those the chicks you bought in Harrah!? They are huge!

Grace, sorry your hatch is going so rough.

I really think it has to do with the dryness this time of year. Someone suggested putting a butter tub lid with a water-soaked sponge in the bator. I'm going to try that.

My thoughts exactly!

Okiechick, you have some gorgeous birds

Pea or Rose combs or anyones like that are more difficult to tell apart than it is on birds with regular Single combs. It is still the same "rules" though, slightly bigger or redder indicates a rooster.
Yes, I still have almost a full bator, 24 eggs in the mail, like, 50 "owed" to me...Oh!, and my sweet Call duck finally started laying, so I just have to incubate all the eggs she lays

Cammie, thanks

Buckguy20, we got about 5 inches. This is the first time this area has gotten two snow-falls in one week, in like, 23 years

My bator is a little giant and I cut a sponge into strips and put it in those slots. Well first I put down seran wrap since my bator leaks. But anyway that seems to keep the humidity up. I have a big sringe that I fill with water and squirt on the sponges ever so often.

Countyroad, did your man have to come to the school today? We had some vandalism last night and I seen we had the police up there most of the day! That short guy Mike about scared me to death this morning when he come cruising through! I thought I had set off the alarm on accident or something! The kids are sure restless this week, don't know if it the excitement of spring break coming or what! Thank goodness it's friday, much more of this week and they would of found me hidden under a desk eating crayons!! It's been stressful!!
