Hey Robin,

I feel you on the dentist. I hate them. Just to get my teeth cleaned wipes me out. When I get dental work it really does. The Novicain gives me anxiety and I almost need a driver home it gets so bad.... Did I say that I hate the dentist?

Peaches

yep- they drug me to get there, put me down to do anything! like this dentist though, so that helps some....

hey poco- have a friend that needs a nice roo, told her to get a cochin, brahma or favorole- you have any? her young roo has started attacking everything...including her toddler-

I am taking a short break from all of the to-do-ness.
Leaving in a bit for BajaOklahoma.
If I am not back on this afternoon, I'll check back in on Monday.
Everyone have a great week, weekend and holiday!

On a happier note... I got two lovely chicks in this morning to add a new color & bloodline to my cubalaya.

Blue silver duckwing and silver duckwing stags. They should be right and ready to breed hens come next spring!

Good Late Morning Everyone!

Students are watching a video of Broque Art Period. Please let the next days go by quickly or I totally loose my mind.
Just two more days after today!

Have you tried laying a loose wad of the plastic construction net stuff as a barrier around your coops? It is supposed to catch the snake as they try to go into the coop and trap them because they can't unwind themselves from the randomly spaced holes. Others can probably describe the concept better than I can.

Okay, I checked it out. I stand corrected. What I've been finding are black ratsnakes not chicken snakes. Evidently, I've been feeding mine better because they get longer than 72" here. Or maybe it's because I live so close to Texas...

I was going to move all my chickens away from the edge of the woods but it says they like open fields too.

Hi Sherri!
I would still think your chickens would be safer (not just from snakes) if they were away from the woods. Once within a year we killed three of those snakes here, but we could not decide if they were black ratsnakes or corn snakes???
On a happier note, our Eufaula show should be in the paper some time soon. I will let you know when I see it

My thoughts are to use the hatching tray lined with paper towels, like using paper plates, just toss the mess.

Even if you need to spot clean the bator so what? after all a hen will get up off of the nest several times a day and if you check the eggs they will be cool to the touch.

Until I started to read all this, I nearly forgot I killed a copperhead in the guinea house this early this afternoon. They are so beautiful, it's almost a shame to kill them, but I don't tolerate snakes in my poultry houses; especially poisonous ones. I think this one is a little over 2' long (the biggest copperhead I think I've seen), but I haven't measured it.

Thanks for the warnings, StinkyPuddle! Have you two been to see Syd yet?
