Thanks for asking Monty. Well, I think I am on the mend...

I really hadn't expected to be home today but the storm directed otherwise.

You know, I sat on the front porch and watched that storm rolling in; I haven't heard a storm like that before--it was litterally growling. Not thunder though...it started with the growling; a long way off sort of noise...noise that makes you uneasy. Then it got louder and louder...I thought it was the ferocity of the rain hitting the ground, as it hadn't yet arrived but I could see it was getting nearer. Then the growling got louder and became roaring...and then I could see what was making the noise--the WIND! I had barely any time to make the three steps to come inside before it blasted the house. It was an amazing thing to see but at the same time scary--I didn't know if we were having a tornado--it was one of those that could have popped up and been rain-wrapped. You just never know what can happen.

Vern stayed home for a little while this morning to begin the clean-up process. We have hay in the rafters in the barn...we have NEVER had hay blow up there before! The entire barn looks like it got mud blasted...even inside.

Luckily the coops were intact but the tarps seem to have made a hot air balloon out of themselves and are now waving at us from Alfalfa county!

Now, to catch up on the posts...

very scary description of the storm. Glad you and Vern are alright.

Funchick, I totally know what you mean about the storm growling. When it started here I thought there was a dog outside so I took the flashlight out looking for it. Did not hear anything for a couple of minutes then it thundered again and the mystery was solved.

Just for the records, I am through with the rain for a few days. I have never had water standing on the property until after the rain today. Now I have a swamp in my backyard.

I have figured out what I am going to do for the floor of the coops. Patio concrete tiles. Saw them at Atwoods and it was like a lightbulb went off. How totally cool! Now I just need to find someplace where I can get them cheap. Maybe I can make them.

Well Uli and I are trying to watch a German movie, it is really slow and boring but he is enjoying it so I will sit through it.

You all have a good evening!

At the Blanchard auction a group of us sit at a table in back. At the Fletcher auction, we tend to be less congregated, but there are still some of us wearing the shirts with roosters. Look for t-shirts with a big rooster profile on the front. Not everyone wears them, but you know for sure that someone who IS wearing one is a participant in this thread on BYC

This should help you out. This years shirts:

Thank you Sweet okies for all the birthday wishes!!!

It is the start to a great week!! I would try to thank each of you but would have to quote each one as to not miss anyone!

I am finally home for the day & I am wore smooth out! It rained earlier this morning but this afternoon has been hot & muggy. We just got in from Madison's first soccer practice of this season! I am not ready for it to start!

Tomorrow is looking to be a busy day. Grandma to the doctor in the morning & then an appt with the door man for more quotes, tomorrow evening we clean the pool & move it to storage so we can start pulling the trees out! We are getting so close.

Muesky--that storm that I heard growling wasn't thunder, because I did hear that but it was something totally different--it was the strangest thing...the wind was doing it, and I heard it from a looooong way off. Hard to explain...very eerie.

Your movie sounds Das Dull Filmdat!

On the newspaper flooring, we have shredded newspaper attic insulation...it was interesting to install too--blown in--let's just say I was glad to have a shower after that!

so you're jumping right into to building an incubator - you are hard core! Glad you found us.
Thanks for all the welcomes from everyone :) Sorry I haven't responded sooner, I finished my homemade incubator and built and automatic egg turner as well. Today is day 21 and I have 2 chicks so far out of about 24 that had chicks in them when I candled just before I put it on lockdown, I had placed 190 eggs in it and knew that the 5 would be way low some of the eggs were getting a bit old and I had some rooster issues so I'm not the least disapointed in the hatch so far There is a link in my signiture line or click on my BYC page I entered the contest so have my fingers crossed LOL I quoted the line about being hard core :) I just have a tendance to not think small and didn't want to be thinking in 6 months or a year that I need to build another one or wish I'd built this one larger so it holds 432 chicken eggs and doubt I will ever fill it up! However, between what I have been saving for it and to help out a friend I will have around 300 eggs going in for the next run so Wish me Luck!! LOL
