Mathew, I see from the number of your posts that you have been on BYC for awhile and are just now finding your way over to the Okie thread. Welcome! It appears from your other posts that you have lots of experience raising baby chickens. So, what breeds do you have now and what are your goals with your current breeds?

Being lazy!!! I fell asleep before taking my meds last night, so I am sore today. I'm contemplating a drive over to Weatherford to check out the pet store. Their website shows that they carry ferrets, not that I need another one. I currently have three, but I was looking for some good quality ferret food. I just can't see ordering it online and paying more for shipping than the food itself cost. I also need to check out their supply of snake feed, ie: frozen mice.

What are you doing? Did you wear yourself out yesterday trying to cleanup after the wind damage?

Elwood--that is one of the best uses for a dead ol' refigerator I have ever seen! Good work!

City--I love to can! Already this year we have put up 29 pints of peach jam and 10 pints of strawberry jam. Waiting on the okra to show up so I can make okra pickles.

Shavon, you know your snake will likely feel pretty good about eating the ferrets when he gets big enough...oh horrors!

I did get worn out yesterday during and after cleanup yesterday. Luckily Vern stayed home during the morning and we headed outside before dawn to take advantage of the cool morning air. Actually it was a gorgeous sunrise, even though we were sweeping and raking the barn out. I am still amazed about the hay in the rafters. That was some wind!

Even though I got worn out I still feel better than I did at this time last week. I didn't realize that I had pneumonia to start with...I hadn't even been sick, just very, very tired. But I am waaaay better now.

Shavon--on your pm meds, do you have a pill box all set up? If not, try getting one and leave them where you can't avoid seeing them before bed. I once had a client who put the pillbox in her pillowcase each morning to make sure she couldn't fall asleep that night without noticing the pills. Sometimes the simplest ideas are really what works!

Welcome, Matthew! You'll meet a lot of great people on this thread.

Suzi - I was sitting on an overturned bucket feeding greens to one of the hens and a Brabanter flew from the roost to my lap. I kept tossing greens down to the hen at my feet, and the Brabanter complained loudly. She was probably saying, "What? Are you blind? I'm right here." Watch out for yours. They may fly up to your lap or even to your shoulder if you are kneeling down.

Looks like i wasn't the only one who was affected by the recent storm did anyone suffer any losses? I had 2 broiler cages blown away managed to round up most all the birds 2 are MIA 2 died from a grill blowing on them and a 3 story ladder falling on them. One was plucked bald from basically being blown and tumbling in a hardware cloth fence. Poor bird couldn't do anything but try to fight for its life I managed to get threw the hail and lightning and quickly bring them all inside and got em under my 40 year old brooder.
All is well and everyone is happy now minus my few loss's Hope everyone elses story's are better then mine. That day it was litteraly raining chickens

Didn't realize starting a farm could be so hard. Oh well! at least i am taking my losses early so i can learn from them for the next go round.

It may take a while for him to realize the ferrets as food. In the meantime, they are being housed in separate rooms.

I'm glad you are feeling better. Sometimes getting out and doing something that we enjoy helps to make us feel better, mentally if not physically. I believe that mental health overrides physical health.

This is actually the first time I forgot to take the meds at night. I usually forget during the day, because of work. I remember while working and tell myself not to forget on my next break, but sometimes breaks don't come very often. I actually passed out on the couch and stumbled to the bed in a daze. I ended up sleeping on Andrew's side of the bed. I don't think he would have appreciated the pill box in the pillowcase.

Actually as far as I can tell, you and I are the only ones to have any problems with that storm! Les, who lives just to the north of us said he had no wind at all. It was just our special day I guess. I had no losses but lots of stuff rearranged itself!
