I was thinking the same thing. I also think my daughter found where it gained access. Our current coop is a reincarnation of a homemade kids club house that was reincarnated into a pigeon coop. My husband had a platform and thing that looked like a wire funnel fitted into one of the walls of the former pigeon coop where the pigeons could return back to the coop. When we built the coop for the chickens, the platform and funnel were removed and the hole patched over. Apparently the patch was torn loose and the racoon accessed the coop through the hole.

Will have DH repair the hole X10 and then trap the *%#*@ racoon as well!

Years ago my Grandmother would always say that only a skunk eats the head and neck and into the body of a chicken and leaves the rest of it like that,

I've never had raccoon problems mostly just snakes and hawks (and my neighbors dogs) and back then it was skunks we found out a whole family of them were living under part of our barn and raiding every night, we shot 6 one evening alone,

I would set live traps along the sides of your pens if you have them, I keep live traps set and after a couple times of being caught the neighbors dogs stopped digging around the coop and pen. If your close by I could offer to help with trapping and relocating whatever it was got them, EL

Be sure to find us at any auctions you attend. As I recall, you are a ways from Central Oklahoma, but we will do our best to point you in the direction of any and all auctions and assist you with bidding if you are uncertain whether you "need" something enough to bid on it.

Seriously, this is a wonderful on-line family and we hope you will let us know what kind of helpful information you want to acquire.

Roy said to tell everyone hi and that he is alive. He wanted everyone to know that he forgot his computer at home and he can't check in. He is headed home tomorrow, so maybe he can check in sometime this weekend. We are now trying to decide where to go for dinner.

Jess is there a top on the run? There are many predators that would look at an 8 foot fence as an obstacle rather then a deterrent.

Oh Peaches! They are angels! During deployments i always depended on friends- the Navy had an ombudsman program so if anything went wrong you had someone to contact- hang in there!!

not much going on here, just hot! been dampning the runs, and spraying the ducks - looks like the teens and main flock are friends for the most part-

hopefully the internet will get back to normal soon, using a phone to check email, but its hard to post anything from those tiny keyboards..and when the net did load today byc was down!

Now here is a poultry keeper in dire need of Naked Necks. 50% less feathering on their bodies for beautiful skin when dressed out and presented on the table. In hot weather as with our summers they have a better feed conversion rate then does any broiler breed and they stand cold weather better then any other breed that I have ever had.

The hens will lay on average about 250 eggs per year, they will go broody and you will not pick up one of their chicks without getting a face full of mama.

In the long years we have had them we have never lost a chick to Cocci or had to treat for it. Along with the Egyptian Fayoumi and birds with the Frizzle genes they have natural disease resistance but I have never found a list of the diseases that they are resistant to.
