Last week, I chose to put my favorite cat and my ferret down. Well today was the set date and they are now buried under the tree out front. It has been a really rough day and I can't stop crying. The timing just happened to coincide with some serious personal problems that I have been experiencing. It has all led me into a deep depression.

Oh Shavon that's awful.

I too know how much it hurts to lose beloved pets. It is very painful, and to make matters worse some people are just clueless as to how much it affects us. I am sorry for your loss.

When we lived in California I worked as a program supervisor for a non-profit organization that works with psychiatrically disabled adults--from schizophrenia, bi-polar disorder, schizoaffective disorder and major depression. There are LOTS of treatments out there, you just have to want to try them out. I have seen some very ill people really turn their lives around with some very simple ideas...please let me know if you are interested...and anyone else as well...it helps with physical health issues as well as mental health issues...even something as simple as anxiety can be helped. Just be proactive in getting help...good luck!

So, what breeds do you have that is arriving that you don't have room for? I am sure that there are some BYC'ers that wouldn't mind taking in some new chicks...

POOPS is the abbreviation for People of Oklahoma Poultry Swap and we have had 3 get togethers the past two years, where we meet for the day and swap birds, eat lunch and have an auction to help raise money for the fixed costs of the event. The next one will likely be in the Spring of 2011.

it seems so far away!

Thats so Ironic about your dinner. I took 2 whole chickens last night cut them up marinaded them In some sherry (cooking wine)
Garlic salt, Jalapeno Juice, seasoning salt, and worstishire sauce, Placed them in a Cooking bag cut up some califlower,Brocc, Potatoes, and fresh squash from my garden. Added some onions carrots, and slow cooked it for about 2 hours till the meat just slid off the bone It was So So So wonderful. The kids loved it

As for the chicks I am not sure how the order worked I originally ordered Cornish rock cross and Americuna's I dont know if they resent the whole order or just the americuna's. there only a week behind the little chick so perhaps aftr a quarinteen phase I can mingle them with the week old chicks.

Afternoon everyone,

This feels like a lazy sort of day... We are all slow moving turtles and trying to muster up the energy to be bunnies to get work done...

Fixing to make some pickles with the cucumbers I have in my fridge before they go bad. Had the squash last night with dinner but I realized I like crookneck instead of the straight kinda squash... The plants in our small garden for this year are HUGE and FLOWERING but cant seem to get any "fruit" by them... So PB I need you to convince some of your bee friends to buzz on over here and pollinate my plants please.. ha ha

We lost a few chickens and I noticed some of our chickens are getting respitory issues... I am thinking there are many factors...

1: the wet weather then onto hot weather

2: We stripped and cleaned the COOP and quite possibly the the cleaning out of the "deep litter" caused some cold spores to float... even though I bleached and Killz primered the place...

3: I have no idea and just trying to grasp at straws... but I dont like seeing my chickens get "sick" cause then I have to medicate and I dont sell eggs and we dont consume eggs when I medicate them to get better...

Any suggestions?

Fun chick is right- both dave and i have depressive issues, and i deal with PTSD including panic etc from child abuse- won't go any further on that one, but once they figured out what was going on and sorting things out, i got my life back- our daughter is untreated bipolar and make life rough.. if anyone has issues, get some help- look at it like diabetes- don't ignore it, learn to work with it- it really makes a world of difference... ok off my soap box...

I have a problem. I'm hoping somebody will have some good advise. I have a rooster that picks his own neck. Its been going on for 2-3 months. I can't see any bugs. I've powdered with sevin dust. I've dobbed his neck with "Rooster Booster" (for cannabalism). I had a hen doing it too, but hers has almost grown back. What else can I do?

you might try an anti itch cream, almost looks like it is itching him...

ok off to work for me... working from home has its challenges...like getting sidetracked on BYC!
