1 of our boys in FFA decided to show birds in the local fair this year and so did one of his friends. Yesterday we loaded 16 birds to take to the fair, yonderoak came to help(thank God). We had so much going on yesterday. The state came out yesterday and did our NPIP Testing and our Hatchery Certification. That started at 10am and we finished at noon. Then we started collected birds for the show at the fair. I had to check the kids out of school early to help get the birds ready and I had to check our oldest girl out of school to take care of her baby so we could get everything done in time. They judged the poultry last night. The boys did great!!! They took mainly our birds but also took 2 pair of Yonder Oak's birds. Everything they took placed.. I will get the list of what is was and how it placed this morning. I do remember Devon was determined to take a pair of golden sebrights( that was his favorites), he started working on taming the rooster down last week. The rooster took All over Grand Champion Male. He was very happy about that...
We planned on attending Blanchard saturday but it looks like we wont make it... the fair is having the awards portion at 7pm saturday evening. So we will be at the Expo Center.

We have every intention of going. We took the pickup to the shop yesterday. The overflow tank had a crack and all the coolant was leaking out. We are supposed to pick it up this morning and take it to get serviced. It just needs some regularly scheduled maintenance before we take it away from home. Usually it only travels back and forth to work and that is only 3 miles from the house. We are planning on taking some RIR hens/pullets/rooster, a bantam Frizzled Cochin pullet, a Brown Leghorn pullet, 3 Mallard drakes, and a Rouen drake. If anyone wants a Mallard hen with a bunch of babies. She was destined to go to the auction this weekend and she showed up with all those babies.
Sounds like everyones kids are hopping around with animal husbandry projects...
Aleisha came home the other day excited because one of the teachers is going to start a horsemanship class that might include play dates sometime in the very near future. She was happy because she misses the free days of going riding and there for a while she was training for barrel racing. Would love to see them get involved in 4H but right now have to take things slow since they are still only in their first full week of Public School.
I think our chickens have hit their "back to school" molting season none of the girls are laying and they are all over a year old now... At first I was like what the hey but... then I remembered they hadnt gone through their first molt yet and everything I have been reading on it via Mother Earth News seems to point in that direction.
