Oh, okay. I will get in contact with them later. I would love to get a rooster for my hen, but I've got to thin down my extras a bit first

Had a great, but exhausting Army weekend. Things are starting to settle down with a new First Sergeant and new Platoon Sergeant and a whole new way of doing things that comes with any regime change, LOL. Had the chance to spend some real quality time bonding as a platoon and building relationships with new soldiers, as well as reaffirming them with my combat vets. Our new leadership is really putting the power back in the hands of the Non-Commissioned Officers (sergeants) so that we can take better care of our people and put our focus back on the mission. I have to say, having served with soldiers from many states, the Oklahoma National Guard has some of the best people in the country serving our state and our nation. Sorry to mush on my unit, but this has been one of the best drills we've had since coming back from our last deployment. I'll try to contain myself to poultry in the next post, but in my defense, I did tell stories about my chickens and quail whenever the opportunity arose.

Sorry Matt, I thought it was you that got the four chicks.
It was a great time last night. I enjoyed myself thoroughly. Good to see all the BYC folks.
I sold some birds, gave some away and only brought one back.
Thanks Carla for selling me the NN hen.
Good meeting Okieracefan! Sorry I missed Ivyblaze. I was probably right there by you but just didn't look around to see who was who.
I had the honor of helping load the Magic Poultry Van. Actually I just carried stuff and watched P&B do the intricate loading.

Okay, even for those of you who know how poultry shows are judged, these results may be confusing, because our Fair kind of only has it's own set of rules!

The birds are judged by class, not breed or variety, so they have a lot more competition. But each class is divided between Cock, Hen, Cockerel, and Pullet. So an entire class of birds (Feather Leg Bantams, for example) will have a maximum of four 1st place birds, and four 2nd place birds, etc.

In the Open show I got:

Bantam-
SDW Old English pullet - 1st, Game Class Champion
Black Cochin cock - 1st, Feather Leg Class Champion
WC Chocolate Polish cock - 1st
Mille Fleur d'Uccle - 1st

Grace, it sounds like there were a ton of birds in the competition and that you did well. I am in awe of your accomplishments.

Just the thought that you have to feed and water that huge variety of birds each days makes me tired.

I just got the OEGBCA July Quarterly a few days ago and Corey (at 10 yrs) was listed twice for her Ginger Red OEGB Pullet getting RV at the Great Plains Game Bantam Spectacular. Everyone is judged as Open. She got .5 pt for each of the two shows that day (for a total of 1 pt).

I'm so proud that she has already begun accumulating points at this tender age!

No sweatheart just a spring 2011 one, we may kick around the idea of a big dinner at a resturant during the holiday's maybe. no plans really.

AL

A big dinner would be great in Shawnee on the 11th or 12th of Dec since the National APA Show will be going on then! They will be accepting 4500 entries this year. Plenty of birds for everyone to see.

Also, the Showmanship will have 3 classes paying $50 for 1st, $40 for 2nd, $30 for 3rd, $20 for 4th and $10 for 5th places in each class. All the kids need to plan on entering this one for sure.

Yes, We do have silkies! I just haven't talked myself out of raising them yet, although Gerald and I have decided we need to sell out of all our bantams. We just don't have enough time to feed & water all the rabbit hutches that we keep our bantam chickens in. I'll probably bring some to the next auction
