Put the bator on lockdown last night and looking good for a decient hatch rate come Sunday, I'm excited about it :) I have this large rubbermaid container set up and ready as a brooder area and need to get at least one ofhteose pigeon coops cleaned out they will make a great place to move chicks to after they are ready to come out of the brooder, I'm already saving eggs for another run I might consider buying some at blanchard auction if they have something I am interested in I want to find some RR Reds, Buff Orpington, and Welsummer hatching eggs those are the ones I think I want next really, I'm not saving any mutts now to hatch I will have plenty if the hatch is good this time.

This has been a bad day

My father in law is in the ICU, Dr's had them "call the family" this morning, he has made some very small improvements throughout today, but Dr's are still not hopefull. They know massive CHF attack, and and MI (probably created the acute CHF incident) and renal failure, and the strongly suspect a stroke just for good measure. Hoping for the best preparing for the worst.

If I'm not working, I'm almost always lurking. I have a habit of leaving the forum up on my phone and laptop.

I will have at least two pullets for sale, but I don't think I will have a cockerel (to make it a pair). I had a trio of SDW OEGB, but I've sold them now. They had 8 chicks - 7 pullets, 1 cockerel.... I guess I can't complain about that ratio, though

I really can't see any fault in the girls except for their breast feathers being a tad too dark. Although.....Last month one won Class Champion, but it was only at my county fair and there wasn't much competition.

Well not really. An Afgan Hound can clear 8 feet without breaking it's stride and according to sites on Coyotes they can clear fences much taller too. It may be time for electricity to come to SE Ok. Both Zareba and Gallager sell fence energizers that will turn bear and large hoof stock such as Moose and Elk. The big ones are pricey and if there are small children around I would not reccomend getting a charger that hot.

We use a mid-range for the stallion pen and once I raised up under a gate and it put a nice burn across my back through my shirt.

You can use the intelligence of predators against them. After you put in an electric fence tie some meat on the hot wires and hose the area down on either side of the fence. Even if they just sniff the fence they will recieve a healthey jolt due to the wet ground and their smarts will keep them from forgetting the experiance.

Hello all. I just finally got caught up on today's posts. I have a small problem. I don't want to brood babies over the winter. There are several reasons. \\
1. I have a hard time getting rid of any of my birds because of my location.
2. I have nowhere in the house to put up a brooder box.
3. I haven't had time for the birds that I have now.
4. Plus more that I can't even think of right now.

My husband, the guys who isn't very fond of birds, called me at work today and told me that I need to set up the incubator tonight. He wants to hatch some ducks. DUCK OF ALL THINGS!!! They are so messy, that I usually only brood them in the summer, when I can put the brooder box in my small coop. I don't wanna run extension cords to the coop in the middle of winter. Plus we already have 13 baby ducks right now! Twelve are with mama and one is currently in my only bathtub! But baby ducks are sooo cute and I just love them, despite their smelly, messy ways.

Oh what's a girl to do!?
