Thanks for the welcomes. We do hope to be at nationals, probably on Sunday. I think it continues through Sunday? If anyone has any black australorp hens or pullets they will be selling there, we have decided that is a breed we are interested in. We currently have 3 baby chicks, a week old, that are a mix given to us by a neighbor, 5 RIR cockerels, 1 bantam barred cochin (Kevin), 2 black australorp roos (just started crowing) and the plan was to butcher these two and we will have to, but I really love the breed, they've started following us around the yard like puppies, a bunch of ameracauna pullets and hens, most are reddish but we have two very pretty black and whites (these could be mixes, I will post pics soon), 4 Buff Orp Hens, 1 BO Rooster, 1 Cuckoo Marans Roos, 1 CM Hen, 1 BCM Hen, 1 white unknown hen, 1 RIR Hen, 1 black unknown hen, let me think..... I think that is it for now! Currently the Amer. are laying and a few of the light brown layers also, my guess is the RIR and Buffs, but the black unknown is in the nests a lot too. We have a portable coop that my husband built and he is working on runs to attach for days we are not home and they need more room. That coop is divided into two parts so we can keep a roo on each side. We also have a smaller a-frame coop where we keep the younger roos and pullets for now. We just started letting them free range this weekend and it has been great so far. I'm surprised at how manageable the chickens are. We just have to keep one mature rooster penned while the other is out. So we let one out and in a few hours he will have wandered back into the coop, so we shut the door and let the other out. They are loving foraging for critters and chickweed. We are on 2 1/2 acres but also have access to about 3 owned by our neighbor. We plan to put goats on our neighbors part in the spring and he just informed us he's buying a donkey to put there as well. We also own rabbits and pigs. It is really amazing what can fit on a small acreage and still not feel crowded. I will try to post some pics soon.
