Actually, I think poultry would make a wonderful Christmas gift - and very consistent with the 12 Days of Christmas song too!

Wouldn't it be cool to get 7 swans a swimming, 6 geese a laying, 4 calling birds, 3 french hens, two turtle doves and a partridge in a pear tree? Of course, you would need the 5 golden rings to pay for all of those

You have found a wonderful group of folks who either live in Oklahoma or wish they lived in Oklahoma.

The solution to "too many roosters for the # of hens" is to buy more hens

The solution to "mean roosters who don't behave after a few flying lessons across the yard" is to make rooster soup.

You know you need some! Buckguy, hope they work out for you! The little pullet should be better than the hen. Probably won't weigh as much, but should at least add some size to whatever you breed her to.

well finally home from work ... come home to a chirping suprise from the incubator , 5 blue black splash ameraucana chicks, 5 buff orps , 5 french black copper marans , and 2 olive eggers

Yes, that's me. I had only a description of a jacket and a first name, so Friday evening I was wandering around, trying to read women's coats. Then I started asking people with the breeds she had if they knew Grace. No Grace on the exhibitor's list, and I was wondering inot only af "grace" wasn't her way of writing "regards", like some people say "Blessings". But I ran into you and your lovely children putting up birds and you reassured me her name really was Grace. You mentioned the"Poops" shirt, so the next morning I was back asking around about the about the Poops thing and heard she had blonde hair and was "tall". (isn't everybody?)

Anyway, tall woman, blonde hair, Poops shirt, looking at silkies....CityClucks, how could I go wrong?

Donnie - Congrats on your winter babies.

Anyone looking for splash or blue Polish cockerels? I've got one of each. I kept hoping for girls, but they are both developing loose hairdoos and tiny wattles.

Had a surprise in a pen last night. An owl got it and ate a rooster. When I went out this morning to feed, I found him still at his meal. The poor hens are still scared to pieces. Without thinking I shoved my hands in my gloves, snatched the owl after cornering him, and took some pictures. He sat in a travel cage while I mended the roof. He tore through the bird netting. Note to self: replace all bird netting with chicken wire. That's happening over the new pens anyway. Old pens will get wire tonight. I let him go so he could eat mice, snakes, and skunks. Owls are the only predator that eats skunks. Owls are protected by the migratory birds act. If this guy becomes a nuisance, I'll have to get a permit to trap and relocate him. I hope he just switches to rabbit. He's a marvelous looking bird.

poco! he is beautiful! sad to say- they really are- hmmm..so bird netting may be history here for chicken wire on the top.... and if an owl gets skunks, they can't be all bad

Wow, What beautiful eyes and tallons!
I was going to put bird netting over the grow out pen I am putting in in the spring. We have a family of owls, with 3 babies hatched this year, in out neighborhood. Guess I'll have to re think my design.

Coral, it looks like you had more fun after I saw you!! I so like running into you~ Robin, I don't know that I wouldn't change unless you have a problem, I have had netting for a long time with no trouble. I also have a pen with chicken wire & it was our first before I knew the BYC or anyone to guide us & it sags badly.

Good morning Okieland~ It's going to be a great day!!!!!!!!!!

I am ready to learn about NN's Monty!!!!!!
