Well I spent the afternoon and part of the morning following the wife around shopping! Now I just finished getting them wrapped while she watched movies!Still have a few more to get but thats most of them. We are doing small on the Christmas this year. After thats not (gifts) what its all about. It seems there is so little "Christmas" sprit this year.
I got five eggs from the bantams today. Not really trying to get them to lay because I would rather they wait till warm spring time and be in production.

Wayne,
I would like to learn how to spin wool into yarn and the wool on a Shetland Sheep typically has a long fiber to it, compared to some other breeds. I have owned them before and liked them, but made the mistake of not correcting the ram sufficiently when he first started head butting and he became rather destructive. You want to scratch them under the chin rather than between the horns, so that when they approach you their head isn't tilted down in a butting position. These two are ewes, so no ram issue right now - although I am hopeful that at least one of them is bred. Unlike goats which have kids year round, the Shetland Sheep typically have their lambs in April, when the weather is warming up and tend to be easy birth mothers.

I was also able to trade her Muskovie hens for a blue lemon colored Americauna hen, so it was a great afternoon.

You did have a good afternoon of tradeing! What color are the sheep? I understand that the shetlands are not typically a very tame type. But I imagine they are like most animals and respond to kindness and traing. At least I hope so!lol.
I'm still trying to get Noel the mini pig to trust me. She will come up and smell my hand but so far doesn't want me to touch her. I gave her a little more pen room this afternoon and she was danceing around and scartching her butt on the boards. They can be so funny when they scratch!

Wow nothing since 8:54????????????

Where is everyone, I know I should be in bed but you guys are usually here if I'm not!

The last room has been painted!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The floors are almost all cleaned!!!!!!

I have 6 chickens left now from my original straight run of 16. Lost 2 to hawks, 5 to neighbors weenie dogs and 1 to a auto/ped on peebly road and 2 roosters sold at the swap meet. I now have 2 Dominique hens, 1 black Australorp hen, 1 EE hen, 1 Dominique rooster and 1 feathered Cochin Bantam rooster. I would like to pick up another 6 - 10 hens that are already laying. The process from chick to hen is too long for me to go through again for a while.

I live off of NE 23/Peebly.

We are practically neighbors. I have hens that are laying. Not sure exactly which ones are laying at the moment but I have been getting more eggs each day for the past three days.
Most I have for sale would be EE's or crosses.

Have you got a place to keep them? Won't do you much good to buy more hens just to feed the neighbors dogs.

I have a coop for them and I was letting them free range from morning until dark. My neighbors dogs (miniature dachsunds) got out one day and onto my property and killed 3 birds before I knew they were there. I stopped the slaughter and ran them off. Everything was good until the last few weeks. I would go to lock up the coop at night and there was one less bird. I couldn't find any feathers or blood anywhere on my property. I lost a second one two days later. Then my elderly neighbors came to my house and told me the stupid chickens had been going through one fence and then flying over a second one to get into the yard where there dogs where and the dogs were killing them as soon as they got in there. They suggested I clip one wing to keep them from flying over the fence. I did that and the next day I lost a rooster who went wandering 200 yards away from my house to the road. I stopped letting them out all day and now they just get out for 2 - 4 hours. Haven't lost any since. I need to go ahead and build a run so they can still go outside the coop with a little more protection and then let them free range only for short periods of time under supervision.

Good morning Okies!

Im ready for the warm weather we are going to have today and tomorrow! It will be nice to get some things done in the yard withot my hands freezing.
