(From craigslist) There are (or were) some blue Wyandottes for 40 a pair, same person has blue laced red Wyandottes (two pair) for 50.00 and also listed straight run Welsummer chicks for 3.00 each.
There's another guy with game pullets for 25 each (firm).
But those 25.00 Buckeyes are sold.

Daniel, you can hit the auctions, or try an ad like the guy in Edmond; just advertise you want birds, and list what you want to pay for them.

There are a few things to keep in mind there, most layer breeds burn out quickly and production reduces greatly after the first year, often will not lay in winter either without assistance. Then there are spme that just plug along for 3-4 years some a little longer like wyandottes and cochins which are less affected by winter, cold weather and short daylight hours. I am not a fan of the RIR and such but Wyandotte, brahma, cochin, many american and asiatic breeds seem to be less affected but slow their laying during hot weather.

There is always the auction in Maud every thursday evening goats start at 7 poultry is after the goats.

Good to see you.

If you are wanting to get chicks, grow them for 8 weeks or less and butcher them, then the Cornish Cross will allow you to accomplish that goal. You just need to get them processed when they reach weight because their legs can't support their weight and they die because they can't get to food and water and (my personal opinion) their hearts can't handle the stress of the weight. For tender chickens, they are a good way to go. I have had some gifted to me a couple of times when kindergarten classes hatched eggs they got with the incubator they "checked out" from the OSU extension center. Liked them for meat birds, but definately not "keepers"

Morning from the frozen East(didn't that used to be the frozen north!lol). WE had 9 degrees this morning. But its supposed to get in the high 30s today so a warm up is starting!

I guess with the longer days(barely) my spring blood started flowing,I was looking up hatcherys last night to see what was offered! So far I like the wyandotte bant5am assortment from Ideal.

It would be neat to have all the colors of the breed at one time. Then again it would be fun to have a rainbow assortment of pullets either heavys or lights like Mc Murray offers. Decisions decisions!
