Monty, if having an incubator would help you recoup some of your cost by selling chicks, I think go for it. You obviously enjoy them and you are good at raising them. Besides the initial cost of the bator, is there a downside to getting one?

The only other downsides are having a good place to keep it because I don't think my wife would really like having one in the house although we have never really discussed it.
The other thing is is that when I have attempted hatching in the little giant I have, I have had such sporadic results that I didn't think it was worth it.
I could use my garage for a place for an incubator but I will have to get it in ordfer first and that may take a little while.
Most days I love the chickens and look forward to everything I do with them and then some days ( not as often) I look at all the stuff I do to keep them and think these guys aren't worth it.
I guess I am just waning tonight instead of waxing.

I think it is perfectly natural for someones hobby to go through different cycles, if you just nailed it down to one it may get kind of mundane. One would also be ok if you were striving to perfect something, then it would take all your dedication.

So, are your "olive eggers" Americauna chickens? Are the egg shells light blue inside or are they white inside?

Not my project so I don't know for sure. Just giving my wife some variety and hatching some bought eggs, sight unseen, you know. Inside of shell looks white to me, just green eggs with a dark egger daddy that are supposed to lay olive green eggs when mature (someone's special project, sounded cool). All hatched except a little buff silkie. The blue cochin was a nice touch for Easter and the rest are all black with some white markings (including the olive eggers). Hey Buckguy, talk to me about the incubator before you decide. I've got a real rookie question, what is POOPS? Happy Easter everyone!

Happy easter everyone

I hope everyone has a great day hunting eggs

Monty - I had a moment like that last winter. I wanted to just pull it all down and have my yard back, then chic season started and I went to order hubby 6 or so chics........ so here I am with 51 chics and 1 hen, building a bigger coop. Cost effective - probably not, something I enjoy doing everyday - often not, but worth it on the days I find it enjoyable - definately.

Al - LOL I am loving these jokes - keep em coming!

Good Morning and Happy Easter.
Glad to have the rain, gardens and flower beds needed it. So did my pond, poor fish were about to be sucking mud.

Chickens, I am with you there Monty spend way more than I have ever made on them. Do I consider selling them off, yea sometimes. I did down size some this past winter. Now I am just hatching chicks left and right. Out of the chicks we hatched out this last time, all but 1 is still going strong. We covered them up with a tarp last night just to be on the safe side. They are outside and loving it.

When my new grand baby is born and after my daughter goes back to work/school, I will be watching the baby all day and my 6 yr old grandson after school. Hubby asked me how I was gonna take care of the chickens and the baby. Well, I kinda looked at him and said I raised 4 daughters that are not 26, 24, 23 and 22, no I didn't have chickens when they were babies. I think I can handle it.

Great hatch there.

Gets easier hummmmmmmmmm.............ball practice here at 5 dance class on the other side of town at 5 30, something else somewhere else on yet the other other side of town at 6 then it is going back to pick them up hope they dont all get done at the same time.

Talk about ball practice, My girls all played softball and all 3 teams won in the state finals. Then there was nationals, 2 were in Arkansas and one in Enid Ok. I took the 3 girls to Arkansas and their dad took the one to Enid. Boy were them the fun days. Yea it gets easier..........after the age of 18.

3 under the age of 3, been there done that, now I get to be the Nanna. Bless you.

Oh gosh yes it does pass fast. I look at pictures of my girls when they were little and get choked up. Now my babies are having babies and getting choked up again. If I had it to do over again would I change anything like not having 4 babies.............NOT in a million years.

My daddy had a saying..............If I'd have known grandkids were this much fun, I would have had them first.

I would like to add my two cents in here.... I have been married three times, have children from two marriages and a total of six children in all, two are stepchildren I claim from the first marriage that I raised for therteen years, one stepson is from my last and curent mariage, I have them in ages of 27, 26, 22,16, 13 and 4. Believe me it is very challenging at times, like ball games and such, I love every one of my children, I spoiled them every one also, ask their mothers. Now the 4 year old wears me out as I am 48 now, but she keeps me laughing all the time, and in tears at times like when I think about her growing up and leaving home. But I would not take any amount in the world for any of them. They all drive me crazy at time and if I had any hair left I am sure I would have pulled it out by now. But the look on my 4 yo face this morning when she found the Easter Basket that the Easter Bunny left her makes it all worth while, and I have six grandchildren that I get to see little of but hugs and kisses when I do, Lynn
