Anthea, Glad you joined the group. I'll add you to our Okie list. The guy that has most of the hatching eggs and that has the Gold Salmon Marans is Troy Wagoner. He sells most of his eggs before they ever get to the auction. He lives in Midwest City but has chicken flocks at several places in central Oklahoma. He is a great guy. He was one of the main guys at the old Newalla auction but I have noticed he stays out of the lime light now.

Countyroad, I sent you a pm. Gosh, I wish you weren't selling out

Buckguy, are you feeling better? I hope so! Hey, I'm happy to know where those marans eggs came from! I was really curious myself! I hope you can go to the auction in Harrah on Saturday.

Chickenstock is an event where "chickenpeople" get together to meet and visit. Like Woodstock but without the pot. They have them all over. One of our more industrious Okie friends as taken it upon herself to plan one in Eastern Oklahoma. There is a thread called Oklahoma Chickenstock.

In your area there is an auction the first Saturday of each month in Cement. There is an auction each Saturday evening in Harrah. Mary's Flea Market in Midwest City has a lots of vendors there each Saturday with lots of poultry but mostly chickens.
There is an auction in Maud every Thursday. I have not been but I have read and heard everything from great to terrible.
There is the auction in Prague but I think it is only every other month.

okcarla, my friend says this gentleman is always at the auction, so I'm thinking its not Troy that Buckguy20 mentioned.

Does the Harrah auction have a contact phone number?

jimd, I'm not trying to buy anymore eggs or get around the auction system - I'm trying to find out what colors the person was breeding as I've never seen a pure black marans chick with dark legs, nor a brownish coloured one. I posted the pictures on the "what am I" forum

https://www.backyardchickens.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=44481

That's the whole reason I'm trying to find out where the chicks have come from.

Buckguy20 - glad to see you back and thanks for the info

Do you have any contact info for Troy Wagoner?

Thanks

Anthea

Thanks for the info, I am excited to check some of those places out. I think I read a little about some of those auctions on another post but I wasn't sure if they were for commercial type chicken farms or if I would see many types/breeds of chickens. Are there certain times of the year that you see larger numbers of chickens at the auctions vs. mostly eggs or chicks or do they usually have all ages?

It always variies a little but spring is the best time. You can find a lot in the fall as well. Summer is a little slower and winter is the slowest. Just my opinion.

Anthea, I will try and find Troy's number. I have it somewhere. I don't know for sure that the eggs you got were from Troy but I do know he sells eggs there and has sold some Gold Salman Marans eggs. He doesn't usually have a lot from that breed to sell.
Are you going tomorrow night?

Buckguy, do you think you'll be going to the Harrah auction? I hope you can. If so, I'd like to bring some of those ???campines??? chicks for you to look at. Maybe you'd want some if they are ... to trade for your jersey hen?

They are getting barred feathering, and have golden heads now. It looks like most will be pullet chicks ... only a couple have combs that look larger than the others. Also, I'd like to get Troy's number too, if you have it. I have several dozen of his eggs in the incubator, due to hatch in another week. I'd love to know if they're feather legged, and where his original stock came from. I also want more of his eggs. I hope he has more at the auction on Saturday.

Who all is going to the Harrah auction on Saturday? Gerald and I are ... bringing some chicks to sell.

We're also going to meet Serenitychristie and/or her husband for some Jersey Giant eggs and chicks I owe her.

Anthea, I hope you can go to the auction too.

I'm wanting to buy some more marans eggs and maybe some turkey eggs. There's some empty space in my incubator ... and I just have to fill it!

Carla, I do plan on going to the auction. Keyword here is plan because I have planned on going many times but haven't made it. I will let you know tomorrow for sure so you can bring the chicks and I will bring the hen. I do plan to sell some others as well.
