I love it!

I am so thrilled! After a year of raising up Silkie chicks, finally selling all but one, buying the rooster that I wanted, and waiting and waiting for the hen to lay................ I checked the nest box yesterday to find two perfect eggs!
Yes!

TJ's Na-Na :

Good Morning, all................

Rain???....WOW We got 3" out here north of town, but they
say Tahlequah proper got over 6" and they were rescuing
people and had water in lots of buildings in town. For whatever
reason, the main drag runs north and south between two
hills..................

OK, Pa-Pa has a question... this Jones Auction next Saturday
night? Are some of you going to the auction after POOPS?
Any birds, eggs, etc. that are left over after the swap/auction,
are you taking to the auction? Where is the auction from
the campground?

Have a good one !

The Jones auction is about 12 miles from the KOA. I don't know if folks plan to go or not. Its starts at 5 pm.

Hi Everyone!!! We had hard rain last night but I think my garden that we planted yesterday made it throgh. Hope the rain will make it grow better, Chiclooker, nice pens, I too am a recycler and have found my new building materials have become the everso recycleable WOODEN PALLETS, Catle Panels and T-Post, they are money saving, time saving and look nice when done, so I build all kinds of stuff with them!!!! I say do what you can with what ya got to work with, make it as nice as ya can and go on to the next project, OOHH Stimp or Al or whoever, have any of you heard of Cobb chickens, they are advertising them as a white meat type chicken that does better than the hybrid cornish types on free range and less leg problems, thinking about getting some of the eggs, any help on these is appreciated!!! Life is short!!! Have a great day folks!!! Lynn

Hey EveryOkie-body!! I've been running all over NE OK and Arkansas with family from TX and CA this past week. I finally got my garden in yesterday and mulched with straw this a.m. Yea!

I am excited about POOPS and will be PM'ing those on Luv's list regarding info for nametags. Nametags are stick-on type and will have screen names on first line and your 'real' first name on the second line. No last names. Some of you may not want your first name printed on your tag...just let me know. Your tags will have just your screen name and room to write something in under it at POOPS if you want.

So about an hour ago I had an interesting thing happen. Several "city-born-and-raised" people dropped by to look at my new hen house and pullets. I'm kind of an amusement to them, but they seemed to be in awe of how pretty and friendly the clucks are. They asked lots of questions about how to keep them and of course I did my best to proselytize them by encouraging them to put in a few vegetables and start with a few hens for eggs...promoting my evil chicken agenda bwaaa-haa-haa!!!

Anyway, it was interesting and fun for me to be giving an impromptu agricultural/animal husbandry lecture to 7 grown adults in my backyard on a Sunday afternoon.

Grace - how's your chick?

Thanks for asking. He/she is starting to keep it's mouth open and I think it may have under-developed lungs (as suggested by another Okie on the BYC). It did get up and eat a bit, it was also scratching around in the bedding with another chick.... So, it may be improving....

Time to put out the traps for the opposums again. I made my grandson leave the first runner duck egg where we found it yesterday, in hope that the duck would lay another egg in the same place. Today, the shell of the duck egg has a huge bite in it and of course, no inside contents.

We found another duck egg that was better hidden under a bush and it went into the incubator immediately.

Them durn Possums will come back every nite almost it seems. Hope you get him in your sights an irradicate the vermin. I had one get a few chickens several months back till i was able to catch him and give him a few lead pills.

Just thinking ahead here.
The long range forecast calls for temps to be in the 80's with wind and a 20 percent chance of showers on Saturday, the day of POOPS.
But we all know how fast the weather can change here so I would advise those that are bringing birds to bring a tarp or something we could cover stuff up with.
There is no building to put birds in although I will ask KOA if we might be able to put chicks in tthe clubhouse at night. Of course in a box or bin. Technically though we aren't supposed to get the building until Saturday morn.
In a pinch, Al said all the chickens could sleep with him in his cabin.

Not really. Anyway just a heads up to let folks know they need to have the proper gear for thier birds.
Thanks Monty
