I had one once, she barely had a tail at all. Her name was Sage. She disappeared last fall.

I dunno... I still think he needs to go to the ER. Snake bites aren't anything to "tough it out". Not only do you have to worry about the poison, but also secondary infections as well.

Did you ever get him to take some Benadryl?
I don't think there is too much danger of the snake bite "killing him" but the tissue in the area is likely to develop cellulites and die, which could lead to a secondary infection if he doesn't take really good care of it.
There is probably no need to go to ER at this point, but taking him to his regular doctor or even one of the urgent care clinics (much, much less expensive than ER) to get him some antibiotics and possibly steroids would be helpful to the long term outcome of his hand.

We did clean it Then made a poultice of mustard and egg yolk (to keep the blood from clotting so it would continue to bleed). Did the peroxide thing. He has it covered up right now will check the area when he gets up. It was a little black and blue up to the 1st knuckle. That was last night. I didnt read about Benedryl til this morning, will see if I can get him to take some when he wakes up.
