Hi. This is my first post. I'm from Warr Acres, OK. Is anyone else from here and if so, do you know if it is legal to have a few chickens? I contacted the city but they have to call me back.

I've always liked chickens and am interested in having a few for eggs, so I though I would check into it.

Henny, have the temps dropped below 40 in your area? I always put vaseline on my birds combs when it got cold, to prevent frostbite. Yours is probably just dry, but the vaseline will definitely help!

Mrsb, welcome to the board! Have you looked up the city's website? It might actually have ordinances posted.

Who was looking for Peacocks? I know that there will be a peacock and a peahen at the Blanchard auction tonight. If anyone needs directions 405-919-6634 is the auction owners cell and yes I have permission to post it.

We are on our way to the Blanchard Auction that begins at 5:00 pm today. We're taking Jersey Giant pairs & trios, silkies, buff orpingtons, ameraucana roos, and a pair of black spanish turkey hens. We wanted to take more, but ran out of room in the truck and cages to put them in.

Thanks, Carla. I did check the ordinances on line and there didn't seem to be anything saying you couldn't have chickens. It talked about dogs and cats and not having hoofed animals, but no details on fowl. When I called, they gave me to the inspector who was not in his office. So I'm still waiting to hear from them.

Coondog, That is a cute little bunch of ducks. Were they in pens? It looks like they're all just hanging out on open ground!

poultry, The crest isn't specific to a breed necessarily. I think it is more like the Frizzle gene in chickens, but easier to obtain. I even had a Runner duck that was crested.

Carla, how'd you do at the Blanchard auction? I would loved to have seen your Giants!

I bathed my little chickies last night. And I wish I hadn't, I think it was traumatizing to them. And my husband got all worried that I would drown them. But 15 minutes after they were dry and back in their home, they were just happy as ever! They still came running to see me, so I guess they've forgiven me.
