They are outside, now, in a hutch, but we also have a place with a fan or heater for them in the shop (a.k.a. brooder room) if they need it

Leghorns or American Games.

If you want them to be personable, american games would work best. Any larger layer type would work as well, but you will have to keep them safe from hawks & the like until they mature. The leghorns I have were okay walking around you while ranging but didn't want to be touched or held. They would take hand fed treats though.

Hope everyone's making it ok with the weather. They're just announced golf-ball sized hail in Piedmont.

Hubby's taking me to work, so we can leave the car in the garage. And I guess my chickie's are spoiled, I packed them up into the garage last night, so I wouldn't have to worry about them.

Gerald and I went to the auction. We enjoyed it, but I don't think we'll take off work to go to it again. I don't think I'll use my vacation leave again for auctions ... but then again, I am a bit goofy.

I still like the Blanchard auction the best. At Lexington, there was quite a bit of junk for sale before the poultry sold. I suspect the majority of it belonged to the auction owner. I also have my suspicion that quite a few of the birds there had been sold at the Blanchard auction the week before. We bought a black shoulder pea hen, and Misti asked me why I hadn't bought it at the Blanchard auction where it sold for less. Hmmmm .... well, that made me think that a lot of the birds there looked like what was sold at Blanchard, especially the 2 cages of cuckoo marans. Anyway, most of the time the prices were low.

We sold some chicks for very low prices, and sold some turkeys for an acceptable price, but with Gerald bidding and winning several junk items and my getting the peahen, we walked away with less money, fewer birds, and a truck full of junk. Oh, but I did manage to win the bid on a welded cage with roof that is either a goat or sheep pen, that fits in the pickup bed. I told Gerald that we needed it to keep our 2 pyrenees girls away from males when they go in season. But secretly, I'm hoping a pet goat is in our future
