Okies in the BYC The Original

The few times I was ever at a VA hosp. visiting people there I was certainly not impressed. Twice they lost my ex's grandfather, just left him in a hallway during shift change while he was waiting for procedures to be done.
Even now my step-son was in the Guard and while on the two week training mission as reg. Army he got a torn rotator cuff loading out cargo planes. The Army wouldn't release his medical records to the Guard and he had no proof that he was injured and it ended up being a two year fight for a medical discharge, he just wanted his arm fixed and to make a carrer out of the Guard. But as it stands now he still hasn't got it fixed and is working for min. wage.
Of course he can't get medical because of his arm either.
That is one system that needs fixed. Those that enlisted were promised to be taken care of and that promise was broken.

Is anyone going to go to any auctions today? The Jones auction and the Blanchard auction are tonight at 5 pm. I have a feeling there won't be a big turnout at either because of the football games and the cold weather. I guess Gerald and I will choose the Blanchard auction. We'll probably take some Silkie chicks and whatever else we can think of. Maybe a turkey or two. I haven't been able to get Gerald to budge on selling some of his naked neck chicks yet. He thinks they're special or something

Thanks everyone, for all the CONGRATS
I just hope Gerald can continue to put up with me!

Hey Stimp

If you have addresses or can hook me up to websites... I'm not above kickin' up a little dust on y'alls behalf. Sounds like nothing has changed since when I was writing letters before. When we lived in california we would drive out to LA and feed the homeless and pass out blankets alot. So many of those guys were vets and had stories that were unbelievable. I was apalled that no one seemed to care that they were out there. They were all really sweet to us too... What a shame, and I agree with ya Stimpster, priorities in this country are very screwed up. I was amazed at this last election. It was like watching one big very rock concert. I agree with a guy I heard who said it was like voting for the next american idol, rather than the sober job of electing the man for the most powerful position in the country. I don't know that the information age is going to be kind to the USA... we may suffer greatly because of it. I am worried that the next generation is so obsessed with how they "feel" that their judgement is completely devoid of reason. It's all about what can the government do for "me". We are in deep weeds, my friend, deep weeds.

The bad juju continues... I was given 50 baby shower invitations by the parents. I have a reputation for making invitations... never had any trouble. Can't find the software disc for all my clip art etc. Bad start. Got past that. Couldn't get the layout formatted to the size if the invitation. Struggled... but got past that. Printed all the invitations with the wrong date. Mickey Moused that so it worked. Sealed all the envelopes... forgot registration enclosures. Opened all envelopes up again, added enclosures. Realized I had too many addressed envelopes... not enough invitations (?) Made another trip to town. Found something else REALLY close... Printed them up... found original missing invitations in a pile on my desk!!! Ran out of ribbon... had to make another trip to town for more ribbon. Finally got invitations in the mail this morning. What should have taken me an afternoon took me 3 days... a bottle of wine and too many xanax to count. I'm going to bed now.

And on top of that hens are grouchy... cold hens are grouchy hens!

We have a few extra tom turkeys that are Narragansett, Bourbon Red, Blue Slate and Royal Palm. They're all so sweet, but we don't need but a few toms for each breed we have decided to raise. Next year, we hope to have lots of eggs and poults for sale.

We just got back from the Blanchard auction and sold a couple of turkeys, some silkie chicks and some turken chicks. I'm amazed that we didn't buy anything this time, although it was sure tough to keep Gerald from raising his hand. Actually, he was well behaved although I did catch him drooling over some turken hens

Gerald will surely agree with you. During the OU football game, at half time, he called some guy in Guthrie that has some nn chicks and he said he wanted all of them .... sight unseen. We already have chicks hatching every week from the birds we have.

Here I convinced him not to buy some hens for $12 each at the auction and he's now buying some unseen chicks and pullets from an unknown breeder. This breed has some sort of weird, psychotic control over him. He's obsessed with them now.

I just set 14 eggs fron Tn. that I bought off of Eggbid. Natural disease resistance, tolerates temp extremes better then other breeds. can conciencely control blood flow to regulate body temp and has better feed conversion at higher temps then other breeds. but the one study that was locked away in a computer that crashed was only a 40% mortality rate when infected with the H5N1 virus versus 95-100% for other production breeds. I have never been able to find that study again.

Wow, I hope Gerald doesn't read this, or we'll be selling all our other birds & only raising naked necks! Actually, that's great to know. The birds we have are sure hardy & healthy. I don't recall ever losing one unexplainably.

Wow, that's crazy info!

nnbreeder, is it research that you did, or did you find it somewhere... ?? I'm just curious, I think its really interesting when people do studies on chickens. I like all of the color genetics stuff.

Carla, you're gonna have NN's sleeping in your bed pretty soon!

People say that Silkies are the evil mind controlling chicks, I'm startin to think its NN's...

Grace, I sent you a PM.

Ok I hate asking this, but are there any indoor cat owners on our thread? And if so, have you had them declawed?

Ours have destroyed parts of our brand new carpet; we need new furniture but they'd tear it to pieces like our current furniture... And today I came home to find our Christmas tree torn down and ornaments broken. It was my grandmother's tree, I cried for an hour.

I don't want to get rid of them, but there's got to be some kind of compromise!
