I have answered all the questions in the paragraph I just posted.

doubleostud, I should probably clarify that my selling out the laying flock does not include the Blue Ameraucanas

(they are categorized as my show birds now

nnbreeder, hurray on the new eggs

We were at Blanchard too. There was an accident on the highway, so we were kinda late. We missed the Welsummer chicks selling, or we would have bought them. Sale was strange. Eggs bringing $10/doz but young bird of same breed couldn't get $1.50. I was going to buy the OE BB reds, but they went for $17.50 and there were 7!

Unfortunately, I see the sale starting to make some mistakes that I know hurt other auctions. Not trying to criticize, I honestly want the sale to succeed. But I can't get real excited when there are mistakes and bad judgement calls.

#1 You never re-sell an item. There was an ocassion where they sold a rabbit, and 10 minutes later, there was an argument over who bought it. If you are bidding, pay attention. When they call sold, and abbounce the number (as they did every time), if it ain't your number, you don't own it. If I had been the winner the 1st time, and they wanted to re-auction, I would have walked out the door. (not so sure it hasn't influenced me that way already)

#2 I'm not a smoker, though both my parents were. I get sinus irritations being around smokers, so I stay inside while they all go outside to smoke. BUT, standing inthe doorway with the door open, and only your right hand with the ciggarette outside does no good at all. You can't control spectators, but there were folks that appear to be working for the company that did it.

#3 Volunteer employees. Maybe just a pet peeve, but it drives me nuts when folks suddenly decide they are working the pit, and start calling bids. I had one beside me and if he or his son bid, it was a tip of the hat. If anyone else bid, he would yell "yahhhhh". Additionally, I saw him call a bid that wasn't one. Dangerous territory.

There are lots of little irritants, but I'm a business owner and am always looking at my business from my customer's point of view. Anything that bothers them, gets a serious look to see if it can be changed.

I didn't buy a thing at the auction. One of my sons purchased 2 silkies from Carla, and we are all very pleased. Very nice quality, and very good people to deal with. Oh, and the rooster's happy too

I will probably go back if I have anything else in the city to do. But from the Tulsa area, it's a long drive, and stewing for 3 hrs on the way home over stuff I can't change is not healthy.

jimd, I have to STRONGLY agree with you on
you said about the Blanchard auction.

Hopefully they will see this post and make the needed changes?

Gerald and I really enjoy going to the Blanchard auction, but there are definitely some improvements that could be made.

I think we might go to the Jones auction next time, especially since poultry prices seem to be going higher there & we need to sell a few (really a lot of) birds.

bethinOklahoma, I'm sorry we missed you. Gerald and I may possibly go to the Lexington auction, just because it's a federal holiday and we have the night off.

Luvs2garden2000, I'm sorry your birds didn't sell well at Lexington last week, and I agree .... I don't want to buy the junk they sell before the birds sell. It's supposed to be a poultry auction, not a junk auction!

jimd, I'm so glad to make your son and that rooster happy. Also, I'm so sorry I didn't get up & visit with you & your family. My headache didn't do too well with the auction going on, and I was afraid if I moved around much, I'd get to feeling worse. Migraine's are awful ... but getting sick to my stomach is even worse!

nnbreeder, yes I actually look at those military auction sites while I'm not busy at work. Sometimes I'll even tell Gerald if there's something I think he might want ... but not very often ... he's already got 2 giant military trucks and a trailer. I don't think he needs any more!

Hello everyone.
I am back. The surgery went well and with the help of the drugs I have been getting around ok. I f I sit for too long at a time it takes me a while to loosen up.
I don't remember much about Friday. I was really out of it after the surgery. The medicine makes me sleepy so I have been resting a lot. I will forgoe the gorrey details of removing the drain pipe from my knee.
It has been funn catching up on all th e posts..
Thanks again everyone for all of the prayers and well wishes.

I can't sit here for too long because I don't want to have to be surgically removed from my computer desk. Anyway I will be in and out here as much as I can.
I feel another nap coming on.
You guys are great.

Hi, I'm a newbie, to this site, and to chickens. I have huge Arucuna Rooster that was given to me and 3 little Rhode Island Red hens who are producing 2-3 eggs a day! Also given to me.
I have 50 chicks ordered for March 12, my husband is building me a chicken house for them, but will keep them in the garage until weather is warm.

I am in Pierce, OK, between Henryetta and Checotah, OK.

Go Sooners and Okies.

Buckguy20 "get well soon"

JimD I wish you would of been able to meet me in Tulsa. I was up there on Friday I could of brought you welsummer eggs.
Maybe next time I go.

Grace I don't know a thing about Marans, they look good to me and young that's a plus.

Well my chicken girls gave me a Get Well present. I have not got an egg since October but I hobbled down with my son today to feed and I found 18 eggs. They were all laid in the past three days.
It was a nice surprise.

Hey everyone! I also am an Okie on BYC. I currently have a small flock in eastern OK. I have bantam silkies, cochins, and frizzles. I also have one standard Buff Rock. I will have a new arrival of chicks in mid-March. Looking forward to it!
