Your coop sounds like it has an interesting story behind it. Please tell us more about it.

And yes, the God that got our ancestors through the Depression is the same God that watches over us now.

By the time we get TJ raised, we'll be toooo old to climb the
steps to get in the 5th wheel....LOL He's 10 and we're 69
and 58........ But, we can't imagine our lives without him.
And, the way he's going, I figure he'll be the one that will
want to keep the farm. So, maybe he'll build us a ramp.

But, yes, I'm a total believer that "stuff" happens for a reason.
"God Blessed the Broken Road" is our song and we'd been
married for 1 1/2 years when we got the call to come get the
10 month old baby boy and got another call the next April to come
get his 6 year old sister. We'll have 11 years in in May, and
the kids are 10 and 15 1/2 now.

I've got proof..........."ZOO" is in God's dictionary.

Have a good one !

Hi, Graceful and Poultryand Bees,

Yeah, our coop is proof that God sometimes says, "Oh, yeah? Watch this!" I had been wanting chickens for several years, since we moved here, but there just wasn't money for the startup. So it was something on my longterm prayer list. You know, "God, there are more important things, but someday..."

Our neighbors to the north had a little 8x8 shed, and one evening during a freak storm there was a tiny little tornado that blew through and thankfully, did no damage to any homes (whew! We live in a mobile home!) but did manage to move that little shed from the neighbors' property right through their fence and into our backyard, a distance of about 50 feet. They didn't want to mess with moving it back, just fixed the fence and said we could have it. So I found the BYC website, instructed my husband in coop-setting-up, and started praying for chickens.

It's quite the eyesore as we're waiting for warmer weather to paint, but it gets the job done and we're not lacking for eggs!

Stimp - there may be some exceptions, but I have come to the conclusion you can tell on what side of the Mason-Dixon line and maybe on what side of the Mississippi River someone was raised, by whether someone likes grits and how they eat them. My Dad was raised in Kansas and Indiana and he always put salt, pepper and butter on his grits. A favorite treat for breakfast when we were growing up was fried grits, with maple syrup on top (Dad didn't put pepper in those). On the other hand, my DH was born and raised in Oklahoma and he likes his grits with milk and sugar.

My favorite ways to eat eggs are scrambled, and hard boiled eggs made into deviled eggs -particularly if someone else will go to the work of making the deviled eggs and just let me eat them.

The best way to prepare grits is to mix them with cheese and buttermilk in a wooden bowl. Then bake them at 350 degrees for 2 1/2 hours. Then throw the grits out and eat the wooden bowl.

ROTFLMAO..... It has become a dream of mine to eat dinner with Al, Stimp and Teach and Ronnie.... I think if I survived it... it might be very educational.....

Edited to add Ronnie "The Tough Guy" Atkeson

dear Dot

There is no thing as a chicken coop "eyesore" Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder!!! If it holds chickens it's awesome!!! I look at fallen down old buildings, junkyards and piles of trash and ask my Hub, "Do you know how many chicken coops I could build with that krap?" and "What a waste of chicken coop materials!" Hub just rolls his eyes.... He just tolerates me....

Whelp I managed to limp through work from 5am to 2pm today and then go get my tetanus shot at urgent care, so i should be good. The doc examined the nail hole and said "ouch" lol but that it looked alright. YOu okies are brewing yoru coffee strong again, several pages added from yesterday. Dem durn kentucky peoples wont know what him them we keep this up.

Ronnie I agree, but when I'm off my computer on my days off, Sunday-Tuesday, and I finally get back on, there are always 30 pages of post I have to read through before getting up to the current discussion. Then by the time I catch up to page 30 I always want to comment on something said on page 6, but I figure no one would remember it anyways....but I guess with the weather what else do we have to do besides stay inside on the computer.

Oh, oh, oh............am glad TJ is at the circus............................
The American Standards book came today !!! ...gives us a
chance to look at it. Now I know what some of the different
breeds are that y'all talk about. It's a beautiful book with
unbelievable pictures in it. I can't imagine needing to know
all of this so you could judge a show............Believe I'll keep
my "Na-Na, go get me the ___?___" job, and the "what's
for lunch?" job.

And, I'll take the wooden bowl over the grits, anytime.....

Have a good one.

dotty - would love to see how you converted it! We just had a storm come through and a neighbor has decided to trash their shed, so we are thinking of doing the same. Definately would love to get some ideas if you are willing to share pics
