LOL, now that you tell the story, I have heard of it with metal, seems like I have also heard something about finding treasure or maybe it is metal in the ground using somewhat the same method.

Remind me to get with you before poops.....I will have to remember to bring a crate or cage. These will be for my uncle (present) and he has been wanting them for along time.

I must stop hatching eggs .... I must stop hatching eggs .... I must stop hatching eggs .... oh, it's no use. I must take more to the auctions and keep less of them at home. Our feed bill is over $100 a week. Actually, I think it's closer to $200 a week for all the birds and chicks and our 6 dogs & 5 cats. Oh, but I love them all! Well, I'm much more attached to the dogs & cats than the birds, but still it's hard to downsize. One of these days I'll probably be committed to a mental institution because I'm a hoarder

OKay I am really tired and this will be my last post for tonight but I have some thoughts/questions.

If shipping eggs has such a low rate of hatch why does everyone do it? Is it really that bad? What would you guess the hatch rate is on shipped eggs?

I've been told that packages labeled as hatching eggs might end up packed with regular parcel post. But if the package is labeled "Live Embryos", they are shipped with the baby chicks and adult birds. That's how I label all of mine now.

Which is your preferred way to wrap and pack Stimpy??, just wondering how some folks do it.

Al,

I put the eggs in a carton, then seal the carton and wrap it both ways (side to side and end to end) with bubble wrap. Then I pack foam or bubble wrap between the eggs and the side of the box to stabilize them inside the package.

Tape it well and label it on at least 4 sides. I also print out my address labels rather than handwritten labels to prevent trouble in delivery. It seems to work for me. But then, I try not to deal with eggs that much. I prefer to sell started birds or adults so I know better what I'm dealing with.

I am scheduled to talk to some kindergarten students on the 17th about the poultry and the bees. I would sure like to buy a couple of poults to take with me. I am also going to take a silkie chicken, some green eggs and some brown eggs so I can show them that brown eggs are white inside and green/blue eggs are blue inside. Of course, since the main topic is bees and their importance for pollinating our food, I will also take some raw honey, a frame of honey in the comb and my bee suit.

Carla - I will email you about purchasing a couple of Narragansett or Blue Slate poults.
