Is quiet on here....Guess everyone where "it's not raining......
again" yet, is outside doing something neat. Hope so. Am so
glad we ventured to Claremore for the Rodeo Saturday night.....

Ok, gonna ask one more time before I start hunting again.......
seems I got those two at an auction and use them canning.
Anyone that was at POOPS, late Saturday evening when we
all were loading stuff up........... Have any of you found two
great big stainless steel bowls??? Bless her heart, last time
I saw Sooner, she was elbow deep in soapy water in the
kitchen area and I know she washed them. I know Monty
found one, but it had a ring on the bottom that would fit over
a burner. These were just regular "big" stainless bowls.

Hope all the "uninvited" critters stay out in the woods tonight !

Have a good (safe) one, all !

QUESTION (again):
I bought three silkie chicks from OkCarla and they all seem very fine, but the white and partridge (?) ones don't look like they're growing AT ALL... is this normal for silkie chicks? The black one is fine though, he's almost twice the size of the other two.

Grace im sorry bout your chickens. Weather or not its coons or possums they WILL be back, probly tonite even. A free easy meal is too tempting. Make sure you lock up good tonite. If you can do it, get a light wiht a red lense and a 22 and go check the coop out a few times late tonite.

Thanks Grace. Mine were just layers, not show quality birds. I was attached to them, but I didn't have the monetary loss that you did.
I hope the string of bad stuff happening is over and we all have a wonderful rest of the year with our families and birds.

Thanks, Cleo. Four of the birds I lost were "just layers", but I know that even that is hard to deal with

Ok I admit I HATE coons so you can says bad Lightning if you want but an easy way to kill coons is Golden label fly bait and pepsi.
Mix a couple of tablespoons of it in with the 6 ounces of Pepsi pour it in dish and set it on a post near the chicken pen. They love it and will be dead before they go four feet after drinking it. Of course keep you cats penned up for the night but man does it work. Seen them drop right by the post a lot, too. And my therory is they have 350 acres to hunt in, they come in my yard and they dead period. Or I trap and give them to hunters to train the dog.

Tina and Bill, thanks. That is good info, and I feel better prepared on what to watch for!
We are setting the live trap, and dad is going to be sitting outside this evening, with a g-u-n.

TJ's Na-Na :

Grace - read your post to Bill. He says it's just now time for
the Momma Coons to be tending their young and wouldn't be
running in a pack like that. He feels sure it's a group of males
that would be running in groups this time of year.

Do you know anyone in the area that has coon dogs? See if
they could help you find the pack. Sounds like it would take
several live traps.

But, most importantly, once they have found a spot, THEY'LL
BE BACK ! Having taken that many, maybe not tonight, but
count on them tomorrow night.

Wish we were all closer. We could have a cook-out and then
a "silent, nightvision goggle, gun" party at Grace's.

We do have a motion sensor light in our back yard (but not in the yard where the birds are). I might activate it though, and it may help

Thanks, Monty. I know one thing - if/when we see those coons, they won't be leaving alive. I thought it would be crazy to kill one that was just stealing cat food, but now that they have gone and taken a half-dozen birds! Well, they made me plain mad, and I will have no regrets over...terminating them. I just cannot go through something like this again.

You did remind me that I have an air-soft gun... I might not be too good with the "real thing" but I can add my two cents
