Thanks Les and everyone else on the hatching wisdom.
I went ahead and took the eggs out of the incubatorso I can get ready to start again.
Most of the eggs that didn't hatch ( except the Welsummers) had chicks in them. I had four that pipped but didn't hatch and 20 or so that had chicks but never pipped.
So why do they develope but not hatch.
What happened in the last few days of the hatch. Too low humidity?

Thanks

My problems with that, fully developed chicks that don't hatch - was humidity being too high. Essentially it smothers them because the high humidity restricts the airflow and keeps the mebrane too moist and flexible for them to punch their beaks through.

However, I'm hatching in a genesis and not a cabinet incubator so I don't know if that would apply to your situation.

Monty im not sure why that happens. My last hatch I had 10 out of 11 orps and only 2 bantams with one dieing out of 10 bantam eggs. 6 for 6 mutts hatched also. When they start hatching out hte humidity gets realy high in my 1588.

Count me in as well. I totally love Italian food and they always have something a vegetarian can eat. Yes I know, chicken owning vegetarian. My birds are the luckiest creatures in the world, except I do eat eggs. So maybe not the luckiest.

Good afternoon OKIES! Just checking in from Missouri. I hope everyone is having a great day. Good weather here today.

Hubby has fridays off so we are trying to finish 2 pens of a 5 pen set we started a while back. Have tin on all the back and the sides and chicken wire seperating the middle and no working on doors.

I am sooooo excited to actually be able to put some chickens in there.

Hope to catch you all later this evening.

Sheila

What works for me down here may not work for you. The humidity in general is high where I live, plus being in a trailer doesn't help trying to keep a "controled" environment.

You should stop filling at day 18 though, 'cause thats when you stop turning and let your babies do the rest of the work.

Here I am cleaning fish tanks when I look in the bator and mutt #1 is zipped. Me and the girls got to watch him kick his way out of the shell. It is black, and hoping for many more to come, 14 eggs to go
