Al you are a good guy! I went with no expectations, thinking this would be the first run and if I didn't get anything I want no big deal so with that said I had alot of fun but already planning for the next one. Might even have one of my friends and DH signed up to go! LOL.

Staying away from the chickens was the hardest part but in a month or two I should be able to combine my young ones into the main laying flock and that will give me room to play more!! Looks like I will be getting some polish soon for my girl (I like them too)

I hope John & Chuck get on to see my big thanks to them a few pages back.

SOONER you more than welcome.enjoyed visitng with you an the other lady an her hub.I cant remember her name.they bought quite qbit of stuff.i helped her pic out some quail.she bought a box of 10 assorted tux, brown italian quail an there was 6 eggs already in the box.prices were really cheap there at chupps yesterday.i sold 13 assorted layers an they only brought $3 each4 call ducks only brought $4 an $9 each.John took a countryboy incubator an they only bid it up to $20 luckly we were right there an got to po it.i got 10 of the quail an 12 baby guineas for $1 each.wind an dust were bad just ask sooner.her an john got the worst of it out at the big auction in the field.i new better than going out there my wife will kill me if bring anymore "junk"as she call it:eek:

Bigokie, we left our place at 4:00 in the morning and got to Chupps at first light. We got chickens on the first row. That never happens. We had the real young dark RIR pullets. Sold 25 at an average of 8.30 each. You are right, prices were real low. We did better than I thought we would.
20 % commision sure cuts into it though.

The only thing I bought out in the field was a 20 foot chain. The wind and dust was bad. The 4-wheelers going back and forth really keep it dusty. We left early, about 1:30. Dust finally won out. If you, John and Sooner go next month, We will look you up and say hi.

Sooner, glad you enjoyed Chupps auction. I've got some kind of croup in my lungs and the dust was getting me. My SIL said that the dunnage is open to the public. We will call out there tomorrow and get details.

Wow. That is very generous of you, Al. I will certainly do that. It's coming up in a few weeks so I'll give you a heads up when that first batch is looking plump.

On the predators, I'm not sure if we are lucky, or just lucky to have a great dog who loves to tear into predators of various sorts. There have been several nights she has torn out the back door after something or other near one set of birds or the other.

And we are keeping a close eye on the size of those turkeys. When wife says they have reached their best oven weight, they go.

Bicker, sorry we missed you, I didn't know you were going. I did see your birds. I walked through and checked them all out then went (ran) out to the field. Saw those chains too, they looked new.
You know I think I seen one of our memebers when we were over there eating our burgers but wasn't sure so I didn't say anything. I can see her in the background of some of my poops pics but can't think of her name.

Sure wished I lived closer to Buster & Al, I would be interested in seeing the butchering. I have played with the idea of raising to eat.

While reading about the problems Shelly had with her birds I came across a signature line that I am going to have to ~think about~

There's a fine line between "hobby" and "mental illness"

not sure which side of the line I am on, but I am still having fun!
