Long day... mowed 8 acres.....It was hot and juicy and the first couple of hours we did not even have a breeze! What are the odds of that happening in Oklahoma....days like today, wind's all that saves ya!! Dang I must have drank gallons of water!

On the good side I saw my first grasshopper in ages. We have not had the little suckers in 2 years and I am attached to them. I know they eat everything and spit (like a lotta guys I know). But for some reason I just love 'em... I love taking pictures of them sunning themselves. They are cool.

It's always a good day if you don't have to shoot something or cut something's head off.... been a rough week or two.

I always have that problem with the chicks where they die off. I always told myself out of thousands of chicks that hatched if they all lived we'd be inundated in chicks ( breathe, MaryBeth). I just figure it's God culling out the weak ones....but I'm disheartened by it anyway.

I have a pair of barn swallows nesting on my back porch....I know people think they are pests, but I love mine.... they should be about ready to lay eggs. Mike blew their nest off the front door accidently a couple weeks ago. They spent the 2 days I was in the garage cleaning out my mom's stuff, sitting on the handle of Mike's floor jack telling me what they thought of the whole deal. I kept telling them it was not my fault and they were cussing at the wrong person... I guess they accepted my apology, because since they have started their nest in the back, they put up with us sitting out there and running the hose and don't seem to mind.

I am sending that stupid turner back to GQF with a letter....The motor they sent me doesn't even start up...I'm ticked....and that little stick keeps popping out...(no offense, Al) I am fit to be tied...for 52 bucks....? No way I'm eating that. They are going to have to tell me what is going on and make good.

Blah...Blah...Blah... gotta go scrub off southwest Oklahoma red dirt. See ya's laterz

The turner should not pop off of the motor, once you have the holders secured in the proper holes with cog pins. Sorry you are having so much problems with them. As I recall, this was the replacement for the first one that didn't work.

I will look for you tomorrow. I didn't get things ready to go tonight and besides, it is too hot to go tonight and then go back tomorrow - I am going to take a couple of the Flemish Giants, just to learn how a rabbit show works.

Okay, see you then

Do you have any idea what time it will end tomorrow?

Hi all,

Can anyone tell me if the exotic animal auction is tomorrow at Prague or am I mistaken? I looked but didn't see anyone talking about it. After taking care of mom this week I would LOVE to get away for awhile to go look.

thanks,

Donna

I wonder if the pins are in wrong...do you have a picture of a good one? Maybe I can find one on the web.... Thanks.

Tell her to take "The Capstone" and pound it up her a$$. Not exactly godly, but ya might get a little satisfaction out of the deal. Sorry Teach, can ya take the credits and finish somewhere else? Jeez, I can't understand how intellectuals get by....There is so much more to life. I guess everyone finds their little niche and goes with it. I'm glad mine is hens. Ya can't be an intellctual snob hauling chicken krap everywhere.

As my grandfather used to say "some people are so smart they can't pour piss out of a boot with the instruction on the heel."

Teach I can totally sympathize with you. Been there, am there and will be there. It is my greatest fear that the higher I advance academically the less common sense and compassion I will have. It is a darn good thing I have people in my life that make me keep it real. Just remember to use this person as your example of what not to be. Right?

I too have had terrible luck with shipped eggs, what breed were the eggs you had in her bator. How are the White Rocks coming for you so far?/ having any better luck??.

Everyone posting seems so busy. I'm enlightened and entertained when I read what folks are doing. This may sound corny, but reading your contributions makes me feel connected.

We recently moved to an old farm house on 80 acres. I'm restoring the rock that the previous owners painted (sheesh) and making lists of things for my husband to fix. We just had the septic tank located, dug up, and pumped, so now our basement bathroom can actually be used for something other than growing mushrooms.

My first hatch is growing so fast I can't tell who's who from day to day. I'm planning to band then tomorrow and start a log. This first bunch are Barred Plymouth Rocks.

My second hatch is due in 7 days. I've got a lot of hyperactive embryos, so it's been a lot of fun candling them. These eggs are mostly Delawares.

I'm going to set one final hatch before the end of the summer: Mottled Houdans and some Buff Polish. Not very practical chickens, but they're good for the soul.

Monty I usually start my chicks off with a 50/50 mix of feed and boiled egg. I do not include the shell on the littles but when I feed eggs back to hens I do use shell and all. On the birds intended for show I use a higher protien feed, 20% or better.

Also check their beaks, if they are over grown they will get light and die on you. The tip can be trimmed with fingernail clippers. Only the upper will need trimming.

Have you ever seen a grown bird "wipe" it's beak on a rock or the ground? That is how they keep it trimmed.
