Well a first for me! I emptied my hatching tray in the incubator this morning and took out the last 15 eggs that didn't hatch. I put them all in a gallon can and was going to bury them but got sidetracked. I left them sitting outside and when I went back out a little bit ago I picked up the can and I heard chirping. So now I have a newly hatched Welsummer chick and I put the rest of the eggs back in the hatching tray.
THe eggs were/are three days past the hatch date. I didn't hear anymore chick noises but I thought I would give them a little more bator time and see what happens.
We haven't hit a hundred yet but it is overbearingly hot out there. I don't know what I'll do when it warms up this summer.

Thanks, I didn't go to the camp. He went with the church. I know he will have fun. We use that camp for the younger kids because there is much more to do there than at Falls Creek.

Hope everyone is staying cool in this heat! I do not want to think about what July will be like. I made some mud holes for the chickens but I bet they were dry in 5 minutes!

My boys think I am being mean keeping them inside. I am sure they are thinking "But mom we want to get heat stroke!" LOL. Shellie

Just hosed down all five flight pens and changed out all the
water. No losses yet, but they were huffing and puffing.....

too ! Bill has set up automatic waterers, but in this heat, the
little hoses crud up so fast, it's a constant battle to keep the
lines open. People...........what were we thinkin'.....?????? LOL

Luvs2bememaw - You are in our thoughts. One of the most
beautiful, recent songs I have heard is "When I get where I'm
going...Don't cry for me down here"..... It pretty much says it
all. Our grieving is for ourselves, when we really need to be
celebrating having had them in our lives. Precious memories
will replace your tears.

I'm going to cry. It's hotter than the hubs of hell. Mike brought me home some Gatorade since I haven't eaten since Friday night. I need to get out there and check hens amnd I'm afraid to. My dog just barfed on the rug...and not an "easy clean" barf either which means I have to drag out the carpet cleaner.

I'm fed up with this whole mess.

I'm gonna go hook up my mist system for hens....Pray I don't keel over. I figure my great grandma Boyles who came in during the Land Run woulda had it done this morning... stomach virus or not. I will not be decimated byb wimpiness. Wish me luck....then I will come in and tackle dog barf! I am W-O-M-A-N hear me roar!!!

Well, it's hot all right. I walked out about 3:30 and half my turkeys were in the pond, water almost up to their necks.

I didn't know what to expect raising these things, but I certainly wouldn't have suspected something like that. I wish I had thought to take a picture.
