You will like the more neutral color - I did the exact same thing a couple of years ago to my living room - took down the red vinyl wallpaper and painted it a nice neutral color called Lamswool. I really liked the idea of the red, and everyone else seemed to like it, but it was too 'vampire bordello' for me. Good luck with your mom's old room - I was glad to hear that she didn't seem to have much problem with you changing her previous quarters. You're doing great, girl!
And yeah...when people ask me how much chickens cost I usually just tell them the going sale price on a chick (usually $1.60 - $2.60, depending). I conveniently leave out all reference to the sleepless nights when it's cold and they're tiny peeps ("will the temp stay constant? What if the heat bulb burns out or the lamp falls into the brooder?!"); the incessant counting once you start letting them out to range a little ("where is Fiona?...did something get her?! OH GOD, NO!!!! ...oh, there she is."); or the cost of housing, feed and accessories (A 5 gallon galvanized waterer costs $38.00?! That's more than all my clucks cost to buy and be shipped to me - after small order fees, etc.!). Not to mention what my vet said the time I asked if he treated sick chickens:
Me: "Hey Dr. H, do you treat chickens?"
Him (surprised): "How much does a chicken cost?"
Me: "About 2 bucks as a chick."
Him: "Well, I charge $45 for an office visit."
Me: "Oh. I get your point."
(At least the guy is practical...but obviously he hasn't been bitten by the cluck bug!)
I did that...asked the local vet if he worked on chickens and he
laughed. I said something smart alecky, I don't remember what it was. I found another guy who will treat chickens, but doesn't have a clue.
But at least he tries!
Killed a baby bullsnake in the coop this am. Teeny little thing, almost too cute to kill. Almost, but not quite.
New peeps are doing good. Ended up with 5.... They ate like gangbusters last night. It was comical. You'da thought they had never seen food in their lives. Wait... they hadn't!
Edited for stupid typos.
