I have a colleague who was aghast that I'm raising and butchering my own food. "But they were alive! And now you've KILLED THEM!"

And she isn't vegetarian. Horror stories about factory farmed chicken, pork, and beef versus the happy stories of the lives my critters live were of no avail.

So anybody here raise meat goats?

A Muslim friend of mine butchers a goat from a local farm for his family about every other month or so and has offered to let me come along to see if it is something I can do. He's been doing this for many years, so he is probably quite good at it.

Al did the same thing for me for chickens. I guess he'll be my goat Al.

Al, he get's his goats from Anne Coody's place. He said they have some nice meat goats, and he'll show me how to pick out good ones. If it goes well, I'll probably get them from the Coody place.

I have had goat meat on many occaisons and it is great very very good meat with great flavor if cooked right. Anne Coody is a congresswoman from my district and her husband Dale Coody use to work for me years ago. I know Anne & Dale Coody pretty well he used to raise Emu's when that was all the rage, then he lost his shirt when that whole Emu scam fell apart. I would venture to say his goats will be a more on the high $$$ side so check around for prices beforehand . I have butchered almost every kind of animal you can think of so I don't mind helping you get it going. see at the auction tonight.

Will do. They have two groups of goats, one group are the show quality beasties that go for hundreds of dollars as breeders, the others are the culls that don't quite make the cut that go for fairly cheap, like close to $100. My buddy shopped around quite a bit before going with the Coodys and he said most of the goats folks sell around here aren't much good for meat. In any case, he said he will show me how to tell a good meat goat from a bad. All I care about right now is are they healthy, and do they pack on the pounds. I'm sure there is more to it than that.

They still have a few of those Emus out there. Out of curiosity I'm going to see what they go for now and if any are for sale. Folks in the Predators section are always talking about what good watch animals they are.

Plus it would be just plain cool to look out my back window and see some big bird stalking about my pasture.

I might just take you up on the offer to help once I get something going, although you have done so much for us already. Thanks!

I'm sad to say that I will have to work 10 hours of overtime today and will miss seeing several of you at the Cement auction tonight. To top it off, Gerald doesn't intend to go to the auction either, because he has a load of zucchini, cucumbers, canteloupe, peppers, etc. that he needs to sell, so he's going to be getting ready to take it to Mary's Swap Meet early Sunday morning.

I still haven't had my IRS problem resolved yet. The OKC office is unable to help ... said it is beyond the scope of their expertise. So, I had to mail my response/defense. I guess I'll eventually hear back from someone there eventually.

I haven't been feeling well lately either. Lots of headaches, muscle aches, etc. and extremely tired. I wouldn't doubt it's got something to do with all the stress. I finally have a doctor's appointment for this coming Friday, so hopefully he can run some tests to see what's wrong.

Well, I'd better feed & water some critters before going to work. I hope everyone else can enjoy this beautiful Saturday.

Sooner - if you did Batman you could do Mr. Freeze - it's not as bad as it looks - and I agree that last turn on Titan fuzzes the senses...can't be good (but that first drop is AWESOME!).

Well we are kicking around some ideas, we need some input from everybody so we can get the ball rolling, once we have a few concrete plans cityclucks will start to post them.

We are trying to get together the Chickendales dancers, we have a large wheel of fortune type rig we plan to use creatively, and maybe searching for some talented members to show us their stuff. We could use everybody's ideas please !!!!!!!!.

POCO : What are your special talents, do tell.
