Last night I lost a turkey that I got from Carla at the April POOPS, so it was probably about 10 lbs. I think a skunk got it since it was roosting on the ground and in the past 3 weeks we have live trapped 2 skunks within a 20 ft. radius of the crime scene.

A coon and opossum is what cleaned me out and killed all my birds but 2. I learned my lesson and keep a live trap going 24-7 now. That way I can be selective about what lives and what dies. I killed the opossum and turned the coon lose on a guys land that likes to hunt them.

I'm just kidding. They creep me out. I see them around dusk in the pasture and sometimes near the barn. They are often in pairs, so I agree that you need to keep your trap ready for more.

Its not the weather I am dogging its the guys that say it isn't gonna rain and then boom boom flash flash pour pour.
I'll take all the rain I can get this time of year.
I moved about 80 chicks into outside pens this morning and then they all got soaked this afternoon and probably again tonight.

I think that moving chicks has the same tendency to cause rain as washing the car. The last two times I moved chicks from the brooder to an outside pen it rained and some drowned (hate it how the younger ones pile on each other)

Al - I actually planted some seeds in the garden this evening.... after a light rain this afternoon and before the storm I hear coming. Would have planted more, but Jaxon was tired of planting after the first 15 minutes.

I am so sorry you guys, lost my first 2 silkies, and these two i hover over, they are spoiled house chickens, in the AC, course if they are both roos, one will need a ride to poops- keeping fingers crossed the little one is a girl

Hello from Slapout, OK! We arrived here late this afternoon, and let me tell you, it is so peaceful. There is nothing here but the house and the church, but it is great. I will definitely enjoy my stay here.

I saw Chukars for the first time tonight, they are pretty cute. And while my aunt was gone a big Barred Rock hen went broody on about 15 eggs! There weren't any eggs in the coop when she left a week ago. *ha*

Monty - I got your PM, I will have to get back with you on that later. I'm not for sure how everything is going to go.

Nothing new in the trap today. GOnna reset it down by the woods where I catch most the critters at. Last possum I killed had 7 babbies on her. This one was another young female, no babies though, she was pretty small. Gotta get started on some pens very soon. How is everyone doing this A.M. gotta go pay bills and find some food. Breakfast burritoes sounds tasty this morning.

Good morning Ronnie and Chickenz1
Ronnie, we have the best luck setting the live trap near a source of eggs being stolen when it is a skunk we are trying to catch and near the cat food on the back porch when I am trying to catch a possum

Chickenz1 someone else will have to answer your question. Birds I have treated in the past for ??? seemed to become carriers of the problem after they were "cured" so I tend to cull rather than treat with antibiotics for respiratory problems. I am however a fan of VetRx rubbed on the beak, comb and wattles and under the wing where the chicken places its head when it roosts, to see if they can overcome the problem on their own.

Don't know how much rain we got, but it was thundering when I went to bed and thundering and lightening this morning at 5:45 when the alarm went off.
