Shelly - I read your request for a pullorum tester, saw that you were in Tulsa (too far for me) and didn't respond. I am sorry that no one else did either. I am glad you talked to Andi. I figured she was feeling frazzled because I have a vague recollection of her cheerful bantering when she had some calico kittens back in June and Teach was trying to find someone who would go by and get him a calico kitten and deliver it to the NPIP testing class. That was Andi with the calico kittens, wasn't it?)

Hey all you discontented lurkers, come on in and join the fun. If we don't give you an immediate answer it doesn't mean we are shunning you,its just that we pop in an out all day and night and it might be several pages before we do answer,if we haven't forgotten by then.( some of us are old and, uh!, uh! forgetful!) This is really a great site where we all just kind of say whats happening in our lives at any certain time of day or night. We may or may not expect to get a reply. Even if we don't we know we are all friends and addicts and enablers together. So don't be shy and don't wait for an answer just keep posting.!

I just set 28 coturnix and 18 button quail . Do I need a permit to have them? I was told that the permit is only required for bob white quail. I was thinking about breeding for personal use mainly, but may end up selling extra eggs or birds. Most likely no birds would be sold because them's good eats.

Hopefully there will be an answer waiting for me when I get up in the morning because it is past my bedtime now. Good night all.

You don't need a permit to own or sell coturnix or button quail in Oklahoma, because they are not a native species to Oklahoma. The Department of Wildlife only requires a permit to own "wildlife" species which are native to Oklahoma, such as the bobwhite quail.

If you decide to get bobwhite quail, here is where you get the application for either a commercial breeder's license (so you can sell the bobwhite) or a non-commercial breeder's license (where you only raise them for your own use)

I looked for the definition of wildlife and it appears the rules have changed in the past few years. I couldn't find the rule that draws a line between native and non-native species. I will continue to do research to see whether the rule has changed or if I am just missing it. In the meantime, here is a definition of animals for which you do not need a breeder's license

And if you get your button quail up and going, I would really like to buy some adults from you. They are so cute and I haven't had much luck incubating button quail - I bought some eggs at an auction last spring and they hatched, but I didn't brood them right or give them the right kind of feed, because they all died within a few days, much to the disappointment of my spouse and grandchildren.

Wanted to start the day off with you all knowing AnnaBell got her chicken... Now its not big mama but she does look the same... AnnaBell wanted to let her sleep in the pen in her room just in case... Well she slept in the garage but she was checked on three times before school..
Thank you everyone for the thoughts and notes. Thank you most of all to the one of you that gave up the chicken you looked for, for a LONG time, your chicken that you bought for yourself and sold to my daughter in her cowboy boots and duck tape wallet...
God bless

Sundowner No I am in Tn and won't be able to make it to Poops ,hopeing for next springs fling. Funny you ask about black and golden cross. I sold my pair of goldens and kept one hen and am putting her with the blacks ,so we will see what comes from that!
Rainy day here . Guess I'll stay in and work on my next quilt and search the puter for info on shetland sheep and zebus!lol. I want some so bad but just don't have the room (or the money!lol). But I like to look and dream anyway. Also will be looking at Okla. realestate sites. Like to dream about getting back there some day too. Oh I can see this is going to be a depressing day!lol. Everyone have a great one.
