Well, I am praying for my hatch..that is good advice. But, now I am a bit freaked out. On the hatching board they said I should have checked the air sacs of my eggs and that it might have been advisable to put them in a egg carton. I don't have a candler yet so I guess I need to know what is the best candler you guys use?

Second, I sat the eggs to rest for 24 hours because that is what the seller advised me to to. But, I didn't set them upright because she didn't mention that part. SO did I screw up? GEEZ who knew eggs could cause so much anxiety.

What kind of eggs did you get?

YAHOO I got the results of the necropsy...AND its cocci He said treat them with sulmet and we should be good to go. So I am treating for the lice and then Sulmet and we should be fine.

So, here's my question is cocci something that they will always deal with? I will do some reading on the board about it, too.

I got BCM and Blue Copper maran and Blue/Birchen maran eggs.

Buster :

Jim do you need me to bring any cages for you to Fletcher Tomorrow??, I can sure do it if you need them just in case. If you are driving the car again go ahead and buy all the birds you want I can just drive them out to Geronimo for you after the auction no problem buddy.

Oh, that's right. I remember you saying that in your previous post.

Cocci isn't a life time thing, but if your birds have it then it's probably something that you should watch for in any new chicks you grow out on your yard. It's kinda like a staph bacteria that lives in the dirt. Most chickens when fed medicated feed are immune to it by the time they grow their feathers out. However, in rainy weather like we've been having, it stresses the birds and those that have a weak immune system will catch it again.

If you brood chicks again and periodically put them out on the dirt while they're growing up, it helps them build the immunity. Hen raised chicks never suffer from it, that I'm aware of.

Well said Cuban!!!!, the rainy weather often contributes to an outbreak of Cocci, so try to keep a dry enviroment for them as good as possible. If you know wet weather is on the way for a long time for instance during the spring/Fall time, add vitamins to their waterers it helps keep them stronger during that time of stress.

Why, thank you, Al. But no, I learned my lesson to never again go to an auction without cages, even if I am driving the car. My wife didn't kill me last time for carrying loose chickens in the back seat of her car, but...

I'm pretty sure we will be bringing the truck this time, anyway.

Al, Guess what I have quail hatching again!!!!!!

I took some chicks and shells out of the bator and there was no sign of quail hatching. I went back and looked about 30 minutes later and there were three quail already out and the other eggs are moving around liking jumping beans. Those little guys hatch fast.
