Carah, I love that idea. I always think I'll remember then when the time comes I am like ....dugh. I will start one right away. I have stuff here in my pc room and end up losing it. Thanks.

Buckguy where did ya go??????????

I am sleepy! I was up way too early today. I am waiting on the kiddies to go to bed so I can. Bet I sleep good tonight.

I forgot to mention that I smashed my finger tonight but I didn't tear up the new (again) staple gun.

That's what happens to me, I can't find it when I need it and sometimes you aren't so lucky as to have Les on hand. I also have trouble keeping up with my birds. This way I can section it off and have everything together. That idea also came from Les' handout.

BTW I went to the happy hen proboard today and surfed around les. Nice board lots of info there too. I am working my way through your handout. LOL.

Carah...I love your pen you built for your birds. Sure makes me wish I didn't have to work and I'd be out building all day. I love to work with my hands although I can't do as much as I would like to due to the pain in my hands.

What size did you start with at the bottom and how tall did you go if you don't mind me asking. I would love to build one this weekend.

When building coops and pens one must learn to think outside the box as far as materials go. Crigslist is a good source of materials both bought and free. There is always people posting old stockade fences for nothing. So what if the ends are rotted? A 6 foot board can easily become a 4 or 5 foot board.

I've build pens and gates out of flooring that I've taken out of stock trailers at work. The edges are thin from all the hoof traffic but oh well!

so what can you treat the inside of the coop with to prevent or kill lice and mites??

Here all you would need is the 10% Permethrin and tightening up the joints in the coop.

Smith's supply up in Ks has the spray, are good to deal with and will be at the Shawnee show in Dec.

A guy that works for my company after hours was tearing apart a house (or something) he knew I was building coops. He called me up one day to see if I wanted some plywood. I said yes!! He told me the only catch was that there was shingles ( a couple of layers) on it that I would have to remove! That is some of the wood you see on that coop! The 2x4's came from a barn that was taken down.
