My husband said that he seen one of the guineas pecking at a few of the chickens yesterday. I don't have anywhere else to put her. Right now I have her in a large pet carrier in my kitchen. What do I do?

Grace and Dandelion - WAY TO GO !!!!!!!!! Sounds like you
two and the girls pretty much "Cleaned Up" the Idabell show.
Goes a long ways to help overshadow the downsides of this
effort, doesn't it?

Grace, was telling Pa-Pa about the show down by Okema that

to go. Now that I have forgotten the particulars, he has decided
that we might drive down there. So, would you, or anyone else,
that is planning to go, refresh my "short term" memory....LOL

smfamf - I had Pa-Pa look at your chicken's picture. He says it
doesn't look like that eye-worm problem. We just went through
this with one of the Crele and couldn't find anything in it, but
obviously, something was. We just treated the area around
the eye with VetRX and it is clearing up. Be careful not to get
any VetRX in the eye. Hope that takes care of it for you.

I think it would be better to wait for some of the pros here to speak up. If it was just the guineas and they have stopped, it might be safe to leave it where it is. On the other hand, if it is diseased, I wouldn't think you would want it with the rest of your flock, so separating it was the right thing to do.

My chicks were considerably smaller than your bird so I just kept them in a big cardboard box under the same light as the other birds. I collect furniture and appliance boxes just for such a purpose.

I'm what is known in the frugality community as a dumpster diver.

sjarvis those are sure cute chicks,should be no problem selling them. They sure don't show the RR! I bet that will be a great cross and some really pretty birds when grown. (Wish I was closer!LOl like I need them!)
I have another EE bantam broody hatching this morning. Looks like a couple of blk cochins and the rest ee's.
Its only in the high fiftys here but sunny and nice. Hope your low temps don't make it here for a while.

I want to thank everyone for their advice. I think I'm going to head into to town and pick up some VetRx and try to find some terrimycin. I think the broad spectrum antibiotic might help. But I don't want anything too strong since I'm not sure what's wrong with her. I figure treat her for a couple of days and see how it goes. Any thoughts on this?

Bills suggestion of VetRX is a good one that is my med of choice for this swollen eye problem, Camphor oil is a good all purpose remedy for allot of things, and if the swelling continues you will know to treat with something else. yes they do have VetRX at attwoods in the glass case near the wound care stuff. you can't go wrong keeping this stuff handy in the coop.
