You can turn the eggs by tilting the incubator from side to side. Just get a nice sided stable block. Makes it quick and easy and you don't lose any temp or humidity from opening it.

My water always spills......How do you make that work?

Since I didn't need any more problems with the temp, it was actually easier and I had less temp drop by barely cracking the lid open, sliding my (pretty skinny hand/arrm... only skinny part of me!) in there and turning them quickly.

I read up on incubation, bought another bator with fan and turner and several thermometers (the type with relative humidity indicator and everything). Started practicing all the stuff you are supposed to do during incubation, and fretting through the entire process. Out of the last three batches, I've had a total of two hatch.

Sometimes it seems like the more I know, the harder things get.

I just talked to poultryand bees, she offered to let me borrow her incubator for a couple months. I'll at least get to hatch out the silkies (and hopefully some of them will hatch!).

Of course I probably sounded like a blathering idiot on the phone... I'm tired and my coffee got cold before I could drink it all, so I need to warm it up and chug it so my brain will start working again!

That doesnt' work for me. The one that spills is the styro LG an you just have the little thingy in the bottom......now isn't that clear.

I was getting poor hatches with a couple of Styrofoam incubators then I built the Monster Bator. That thing make my electric bill go sky high though. Now I've been steadily converting it into a "stable temp area". I found when I put the Styrofoam incubator in it that the refrigerator cabinet maintains a constant temp of 80 - 83 degrees. (I like to save electricity for the house temp and have it set for the heater to come on at 65 degrees and the A/C to come on at 83 degrees which I have found is way too much of a swing when it comes to Styrofoam incubators.) Then I have a 18 egg Marsh incubator that I use for hatching. It has a clear dome so you can easily see them hatching inside.

With this setup, I can put a few eggs at a time (think small flocks) in the Styrofoam incubator that has a auto egg turner in it and them move them to the Marsh to hatch. All of the incubators keep very constant temps and my electric bill is not noticeably higher.

So to make a long story short, maybe your room temp is swinging too much for your LG.

Just add a small glass jar and secure it so it doesn't move when tipping.

You don't have to use the water area in the bottom.
